Anybody's thoughts on store bought composted manure. I bought a couple bags of what is stated-- organic compost and manure. Anyone ever use it for a sub.?

on the contrary, most store bought manure does NOT work out. mainly due to it being 'cut' with too much sand/humus/etc.
but hey, we dont know what you have in that bag, could be crap, could be good crap. =)

"organic compost and manure" Is normaly the shit from the dairys mixed with the organics from resturant trash. They let it sit in bug ol bags (like the size of train cars) in the sun.. if sand is added later, that should be on the bag..

I also bought a bag of 100% composted cow poo. My plan would be to add some straw, gypsum, then do a PC cook.

in addition, 'compost' in terms of how its applied to bags of soil used for gardens, means fully composted, well beyond the suitable time at which mushrooms could've colonized it.
mushrooms prefer (from what ive heard, seen, and read), a not so thoroughly composted compost, meaning that the 'compost' 'joe botanist' uses is not the same as what 'bob mycologist' uses.

Ive used store bought 100% organic composted cattle manure, it did produce some results, a slightly higher yeild then pfcakes alone but when tested against feild collected cow or horse manure it just lacked something, not sure but store bought manure is not the best.
Just my 2 cents

Exactly. Composition varies by brand and location, so its hard to say x brand from y store works until you try it.

So, am I to walk through Farmer Joe's field picking up cow shit. I had a buddy do that down in TX. he filled his bathtub with about 100lbs of the stuff the next morning the walls and air were filled with billions, I mean billions of little black flies(funny as hell).

you're to do exactly that, or pay a premium for someone to do it for you. this is the law of the world, you do the work yourself, or you pay someone to do it for you.
but as suggested in above posts, you wont know the viability of what you have until you use it. failing your store bought substitute, then the above is your choice. or venture into other substrates, like coir/coffee, straw, paper wastes, etc.

Moral to the story is --try it, if it works, good ---if it don't, you learn sumthin'. If it works I'll let ya' all know 'bout it.

Wow! What a bad idea!
If you want to collect poo, and many of us do, you should look for old dry horse nuggets.
I've gotten pretty good yields from 100% Black Kow and Scott's 3-in-1 in monotubs, but I much prefer coir or hpoo.

Maybe a nitrogen supplement for this fully composted stuff would work out. Try something along the lines of blood meal.
