Golden Ratio
    #7526213 - 10/17/07 12:08 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

I've been spending a lot of time reading and watching a lot of different literature and videos. Theres a few things I'm sketchy on and cant quite grasp.

Can someone elaborate on the Golden Ratio?

I know that it means two quantites where the sum of both quantites and the ratio between that and the larger one are equal to the ration between the smaller and larger one, but how is it used in the geometry of creation?

The Golden Ratio (1.1618) is a number that represents efficiency. Nature express this number in many ways.

It represents the most efficient form to occupy space

Plants grow their stems and leaves in multiples of the Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence is a series of numbers generated by starting with the numbers 0 and 1. You would add the two preceding numbers in the set to get the next number.

Starting with 0,1, the next number would be 0+1, which is 1 again. So you have 0,1,1 the next number would be 1+1, which is 2. Now you have 0,1,1,2...2+1=3...0,1,1,2,3, etc...

The ratio of two consecutive numbers in that set is always very close to the number phi (the Golden Ratio). The larger numbers you use to form the ratio the closer you get to phi, but you can never reach the complete value of phi. You can only approach it. So to many, it is a number that represents the compounded nature of evolution. Things seems to perpetually evolve to maximize its efficiency in occupying the space that it inhabits - you can interpret that in many different ways.

There is a lot of other things about this number, but a lot of it is questionable information. So research this on your own, and form your own conclusions.

Probably one of the best descriptions I have heard.  Well said.

The reason Phi is of center is because it is IN MOTION.

It is the most efficient way to MOVE THROUGH space.

It is the key to Einstein's problem of infinite non-destructive compression...
