Is algae a problem for cactus seedlings?
    #7522549 - 10/16/07 10:33 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

Ive got a few dozen cactus seeds sprouting up. On the surface of the soil ive also got a good amount of algae growing in there. It doesnt seem to be a problem so far. Could the algae harm the seedlings? What can I do about it, besides letting the soil dry up?

its usually not a problem, as long as it is not overtaking the cacti themselves...if its just on the soil, i would leave it be.

peace

it wont hurt the seedlings so long as it isnt so thick so its growing over them... if it bothers u then remove it...

although it may "lock in gases" in the soil. if its real think it may form a cap type thing, which i cant see is good. but i never bother removing it...i just fertilize less and dry it out a little bit.
