Donating an organ
    #7503485 - 10/09/07 10:40 PM (16 years, 5 months ago)

I could (and have) donated time, money, and blood, but don't know if I could donate a kidney for another. Definitely not for a stranger, but not sure if I could do it even for my brother.

We (almost) all received two functioning kidneys. Beyond that, fate, genetics and self care/abuse dictates how we age.

Perhaps I am just squeemish when it comes to be cut open and having a major chunk removed, but I refuse to feel selfish in this regard.

That is selfish. If i were asked right now on the spot, I would have to really think about it though.

They can have all of mine when I'm done with them.  Seriously, I've already signed my remains over to science, and asked them not to return my ashes after cremation.

I would donate mine, but I am afraid they might get high.

Seriously, when I am done with them, they can have them, but not while I'm kicking. Eye donation is a little creepy though.

I'm an only child. I'd have no problem donating a kidney... to my brother.

Actually, I'd probably do a kidney, or part of my liver... if I knew the guy.

A few months back i read Tess Gerristen's Harvest..a novel about the black market in organs. It was chilling..to say the least
