Probably getting a bird

My friend that I live with loves birds. She has a few birds, one of them being a big Macaw. The Macaw talks up a storm whenever you leave and will echo catcalls if you whistle to him from another room. I had never been around birds before moving in with her and I never thought I'd like them so much. They're hilarious, mischievous, smart, and always fun to be around.
So I decided it's time to get my own bird. The only pets I ever called my own and took responsibility for were hermit crabs. Much different than a bird. But from my time with her birds and what I've learned from her I think I'm ready. Probably within the next week I'll have a Black Cap Conure that can chill out with me all the time.
They look like these, but aren't these exact ones:
It should be a fun companion that will hopefully keep me company for many years.

beware, they can be some major brats. Being as smart as they are, they have a nack for knowing how to get under your skin. You don't give them what they want they will make you pay for it.

For sure. My friend's conure whines if he's on a perch somewhere and you won't come get him or play with him. My friend is very knowledgeable about birds, and conures in specific, so I'm confident that we'll be able to keep this new one in line. But from what I've read the Black Caps are much more laid back than the rest of the Conure family so it should be easier than with hers.

make sure you buy it from a breeder, and don't get over excited and buy the first/easiest.
theirs alot of "noobs" out their, and supporting their behavior should be a bottom priority. i made that mistake myself and regret it. She was feeding my bird sunflower seeds and thats it.
i remember asking what she feed him and she said all kinds of fruits ect ect....that bird was scared shitless of anything but sunflower seeds....so beware of liers as well.
but yah gl and get us some pic's if you can

yeah, im definitely not a bird fan. My mom has 3 conures and an african grey. it started out as one conure, then she adopted another that had been smuggled into the country and abused. She laid an egg and then there were 3. Then my mom wanted to move on to bigger and better things.
The African Grey is okay but I can't stand the other ones. They sqwalk all day long. Luckily I don't live at home anymore.
But yeah, some people are bird people and some people arent. They need LOTS of attention and mostly just get attatched to one person.

a buddy of mine had a Cockatoo, cool animal, kinda like a cat that always wanted to be petted, would use his beek to get down from the cage and walk around, liked to drink beer and eat chicken, it did have fits of nonstop squaking though,it did not know many words

Make sure you know fully what you're getting into. If you're going to be out of the house much you should invest in a very large cage for it or it will be rather unhappy.
I lived with a blue-fronted amazon parrot for a good 10 years and was pretty sick of it by the time it left. They make a huge mess everywhere with their food and shit. Keep it away from anything you don't want completely destroyed. Cords, window frames, your fingers. They will chew apart anything.
Not sure about that kind of bird, but the parrot that lived with me had an estimated lifespan of 60-100 years and it was only in its teens when it left. Luckily those look a fair bit smaller so you shouldn't have to worry about the beak so much, I still have scars.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from getting one by any means. They can just be a handful at times and it's best that you know about things beforehand. Even compared to dogs they can be remarkably smart at times and can be a great companion. They require tonnes of time and effort.
Good luck with it, your friend sounds very knowledgeable on the subject so you shouldn't have too much trouble.
Just out of curiosity, are you planning on keeping its wings clipped or will you let it fly free?

my opinion is to make sure it flys well, then clip its wings till its trained and knows you well, then let the wings grow out.
yah birds in cages is stupid, i mean you gotta put them in there to sleep, timeouts, ect, but for the most part any bird should have the house as its cage.

I want a blue and gold macaw! A scarlet would be cool but I hear they can be pretty cranky.

yep its called molting. Every feather a bird has falls out and then grows back.
when they grow back they look like little white spikes. These spikes have the growing feather inside it, and inside the feather is blood. if a feather breaks in this stage of development the bird is in danger of loosing some blood...espesially if they are wing/tail feathers.
anyways the spike gets bigger and bigger until it falls/breaks off like wax, and out comes the feather.
its kinda cool if you think about it, and the birds look feakin cool when its happening, like little devils with horns growing.
