First time casing with crumbled cakes
    #7485221 - 10/04/07 02:35 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

So I cased all my cakes that most of them already had one flush.

The flushes weren't to great. So I decided to case them. The results after threed days case to coir/verm. I already see some growth you know the fuzzy white patches.

I'm pretty excited, even more excited then when I did the cakes. I thought it wasn't going to work. But it is. I'm sure the fruiting will be more than just a couple mushrooms here and there from the cakes.

I just want to thank everyone for all the advice and help. I will do the same when I learn more. And of course I think this will be a forever learning experience.

I will try to post up some pics if I can figure out how to change the format. If anyone know how and could help I would appreciate it.

Thanks again,

eleven34

if youve got any kind of photoshop on your computer, you might have to resize...maybe its just mine cuz my camera is high res, but for example on most of my pics when i go to image size will say print size, and width, and the # is 39.111, i just take away the .111 and it resizes my picture a lot! enough to make it small enough to load onto Shroomery.

to load onto Shroomery, you have to click pics, and click upload. now you can upload your resized pictures

once uploaded you have a picture gallery where you can grab the url of the picture and copy paste it into your post, and a picture will appear when you submit!

p.s. i just crumbled and cased a buncha cakes too

Thanks I'll check out the gallery to post.

How old are your casings? Mine are 3 days and don't have as much growth as yours.

ah man, it takes a while
takes over a week to fully colonize the substrate.
then another week for the casing and pinning

I just crumbled up half a cake today and cased it with MGMC/verm. It's already had 3 flushes with the 3rd being the biggest, so we'll see how it goes.

Also I noticed that no matter what changes I made to my FC I always got the most dense pinning on the sides between the casing and the bottom part of the spawn bag it was in....so im trying to fruit this crumbled cake with a piece of wax paper sitting on top of it, to try to re-create the humid close environment of that space but on a larger surface.

Good luck let us know how yours goes.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure it will work. I will update shortly.

I'm interested in seeing the results of your cake that you cased after it's third flush.

And also I'm interested in the MGMC seems a lot of people are using it. I'm using some good pre-shredded coir. Used for growing hydroponics. I always liked coir for that reason. Had no idea it would be great for mycology.

My next pf jars are gonna be cased, this is my first flush in progress, pins popped up 3 days ago.

i think thats not that bad for a pf cake, they are all coming from the bottom and theres another 6 or so pins u cant see yet. I have counted 12 that i can see and pretty much most of them are still growing and have not aborted.

Given that up until that point I had only been casing w/ verm and some other small factors....I started getting my first couple of big flushes after I started using MGMC.

I hear so many people using MGMC I'm going to have to pick some up and test it against the coir and multiple strains to see which is better.
