Two cautioned after 10ft cannabis plants found in farm field
    #7480028 - 10/03/07 08:15 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

http://icsurreyonline.icnetwork.co.uk/0100news/0200surreyheadlines/tm_headline=two-cautioned-after-10ft-cannabis-plants-found-in-farm-field%26method=full%26objectid=19887854%26siteid=50101-name_page.html

A MARRIED couple were arrested after police who swooped on a farm found three 10ft-tall cannabis plants growing in a field.

Officers raided Garth Farm in Lingfield at 11:45am last Thursday and held the pair for cultivating the classB drugs on their land in Godstone Road.

After hours of questioning, police cautioned 49 year-old Victor MacPhearson and his 52 year-old wife, Annie, for possession of a controlled substance. A third man, was also arrested but released without charge.

Officers from both Surrey and Sussex police teamed up for the afternoon raid and recovered three eight to 10ft tall cannabis plants after the Sussex force tipped off their Surrey counterparts.

A witness, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisals, told the Observer that about 15 officers descended on the farm to arrest the trio and used a police helicopter to help them find the plants.

The witness said officers then bundled the trio into vans before taking them away for questioning.

Denis and Diane Judd, who live nearby on Godstone Road, said they were surprised by news of a drugs raid in their usually tranquil community.

Mr Judd said: "This is the first occasion in 15 years that we've heard of anything like this and my immediate reaction is one of disappointment, but I suppose things like this happen these days.

"This is a good friendly neighbourhood and there's nobody round here we could think of who would cause any grief."

Before the raid, police congregated outside the Total Garage at the village end of Godstone Road.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Abigail Edey, said: "A lot of hard work went into planning this raid by officers from Surrey Police and Sussex Police.

Surrey Police acts on your concerns and suspicions about drugs and information from the community is vital to reduce the drug problem."

Surrey Police said a 52-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man were cautioned for possession of a controlled substance. A third suspect was released with no further action.

It boggels my mind that they say it required so much effort and planning. Really they busted two elderly people growing a plant:crazy2: Wow! big ego booster! God what would cops do without weed really? I don't think there is a place for those pieces of filth in the world. Cops really need to just stand back and take a long hard look at what there role in the community is.
