All American, Sterilizers or Pressure Cookers?
    #7473174 - 10/01/07 08:58 AM (16 years, 5 months ago)

AA= All American

hi mates!
im new user here, but i follow u and other comunity from several years...
I tried to find some about AA, but nothing of intersting...
ive some questions about these PC:
right now my first problem is the progressive lowering of PSI in my normal PC probably bacause the limestone nick the control vavle, so whit the progressive use PSI come down and the Jars get the cantaminations.

changing normal PC whith an AA PC that problem it will change? better use distillated water?
AA control vavlel look better, and it seem more easy to clean out for the limestone.
i need continuity, i use PC daily.

vavles look different:
PC, u can choose the PSI (5-10-15)

Sterilizer (only 17)

another question:
the big difference about AA Sterilizer and AA PC is the level of PSI during the process.
17psi for the sterilizer a 15 for the PC.
i use 500ml jars( is half quart, quart is 946ml)whit millet per 1h.
millet could be crush whit 17psi?
I would have to diminish the process time?
for you is better Sterilizers or Pressure Cookers?

i come from europe, i use PC at 600m( 1968 ft)
thx all

The AA is the best pressure cooker by far. I use tap water, not distilled. If you get a lot of calcium buildup from tap water, then go ahead and use distilled, but it's not necessary.

If you're using brown rice flour, 45 minutes for your 500ml jars is plenty at 15psi/100kpa, and your elevation. If you're cooking grains, I'd use 60 to 90 minutes, depending on if you're using 500ml or 1 liter jars.

RR's hit it on the head, as usual.
What type do you have now?
Sounds like you have extremely hard water and would benefit from using either distilled or R/O water.

> I would have to diminish the process time?

Process time will be about the same either way. 30 min for half pint jars is plenty. 60 minutes is enough for quart jars of grain IME.

2000 ft. isn't high enough to worry about any elevation adjustment.

> for you is better Sterilizers or Pressure Cookers?

There are advantages either way. A sterilizer will be a lot quieter, use less water, and use less energy. I'd probably go with a sterilizer if I was in the market, but you can't go wrong either way. PCs get kind of loud and annoying, and steam up your house a bit.

I can highly recommend AA pressure cookers. They are nearly indestructible, even with the worst of abuse.

That's a good one. The 921 can hold ten quart jars. Seven standing upright, with three laying on their sides on top.

A little steep on the price though. I got my 930 several months ago for approx. $300. That was off ebay. I tried using craigslist for 4 or 5 months prior and i went to a lot of thrift and goodwill stores and found nothing. I know i wanted an AA so i had to splurge and make the biggest investment in the hobby thus far. Twas well worth the $$$. You will love it!

I bought a 41qt Sterilizer and got it about two weeks ago...upon measuring out my LC for mixing/sterilizing I noticed GOD DAMN UPS fucking SMASHED the shit out of it! The handle brackets were bent, and the handle had a crack on it, not to mention the 3 pieces (all threaded) were BENT that make up the main pressure valve.

The point of my story is: I called up the company (I ordered directly from all american cookers .com) And I talked to a really nice lady and they are shipping me a new one, free of charge.

I was thinking I was going to have to pay for shipping (of the lid) which would be spendy + buy a new valve/hose ect!!!

All American! wooo!

I haven't seen it printed anywhere just how many jars the 41Qt. Sterilizer can hold. I assume it would be similar to the PC, but it appears to be smaller inside. If you could test fit some jars it would be greatly appreciated. Interested in quart and pints (wide mouth). Thanks man.

Well I plan on LC - Spawnbags...so I won't really be doing quanity of jars...I do recall on a few sites when shopping online for mine; they included the ACTUAL quart measurements after the normal quart measurement, just look it up.

Since the sterilizers are not for canning, there won't be numbers for jars that they don't recommend using it for. If I could just look it up I wouldn't have asked. Thanks for replying.

I'd give them a call and ask them about it. Ultimately loss like that just drives up the cost for all of us. Anyway, i have such respect for their cookers that i would want to return it back to them.

I've talked with them twice and the first time they told me that they may or may not send me shipping instructions, in regards to the damaged 1941x, so don't blame me for shit. I paid them 500 fucking dollars and UPS smashed the HELL out of my package.
