hey rod. I've got a glass jar EXACTLY like that on my counter top. What exactly is that setup you have there? Has it been successful in the past?

My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. All very fun until your neighbor sees you.                                    -The Joekenorer

it looks like the pipe is keeping the jar open that might be a way for contaminants to get in

i read somewhere that the mycelium has an immun system of sorts. Contaims have a hard time groing on it directly, so if its 100% it should be good for the most part. Now how do i keep them from turning blue is the question.

as long as there is enough humidity and fresh air the cake shouldnt blue, though i have heard of peoples cake bruise even with plenty of fresh air and humidity, but it was never a problem.

Oyster mycelium doesn't blue when bruised. In addition, there should be NO standing water in a fruiting chamber. I also doubt seriously you can exchange enough air in that glass container to fruit oysters without drying the air out. You need to make a much larger fruiting chamber so that you can exchange more air. Oysters are extremely CO2 intolerant. If they fruit at all, you'll get fat stems and little to no caps.

lol, i did say oysters , i should have said oysters then the :smirk:
There was definatly some blue. The issue of size makes sence, im glad you brought that up, however small size was what i was going for. Ill be at home depot today for some things, (glass drill bit) so there will be holes to bury the tube and perhaps for some FAE. ill post up when i get going. the Blue did dissapear tonite.

Make sure if you go to drill through glass you go slow and cold....I learned this from when I used to look for nice vases at furniture stores then make em into bongs with headshop hardware. To drill glass i'd either run water over the hole while drilling or hold it underwater in a bathtub while drilling....too much heat cracks and chips the glass.

hold it under water, I fuse glass all the time in my kiln and you need a diamond bit to drill glass..
good luck!

Thank you for the advice, i was thinking about using ATF (tranny fluid) as this has helped me with stone. Is there a diameter ratio you use for nessesity of a pilot hole. FI if my desired diameter is 1/4 inch, do i need to pilot out an 1/8 to avoid scoring or shattering?

I used to use a smaller glass bit and make just a big enough hole to get through, then slowly bore it out, then the final step would be to use the exact bit size I need and make the desired dia. hole.

Keeping in mind I would usually be drilling through recycled glass, but usually the same rules apply. Recycled glass is usually much more fragile and prone to chipping when drilling.
