Boletes
    #7452075 - 09/25/07 02:37 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

Yo,does anyone know if these are edible?I'm not sure on the species, but they are bright yellow, and bruise blue.I've got a whole yard full of them, and I'm dying to try them, not trying to die from them,so any input would be appreciated,oh and I tried a sporeprint, but got nothing,or maybe it was white.I believe it's Pulveroboletus ravenelii, and I hope it is,because it's listed as an edible.[image][/image][image][/image][image][/image]

Boletes are almost never deadly, but some can make you pretty sick.

I am not sure what species that is. Some nicer closeups would help, of both the top and the underside of the cap.

What kind of trees are nearby?

Ok,I found them growing under one of the millions of live oak trees we have here in Florida, they are as common as palm trees here, and I see tons of them every time it rains. The stem is short, squat, and really fat.and the underside is bright yellow, and it bruises blue in seconds upon handling.Any guesses?

What is the texture of the top of the cap?

How large are the pores (compared to a millimeter), and what shape?

I think your mushroom is somewhere on this page:

We also need to know some detail about the surface of the stem. Is it reticulated (does it have tiny raised ridges forming a netlike pattern)? Are there tiny dots of glandular secretion (you need a magnifier to me sur of this one)?

Happy mushrooming!
