Chemical reaction ate through Aluminum cake pan?? WTF?
    #7362129 - 09/02/07 04:04 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

I discovered holes being created in my cheap-ass 1 qt. cake pans. I used the Coir formula from this thread:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7315610/an/0/page/0

..and YES i did mix all ingredients throughly before loading up the pans and knocking them up with WBS spawn.

What chemical reaction could cause this? I didn't use that much hydrogenated lime to do it!

So we shouldn't use aluminum pans as a casing container?

Brf cakes don't eat through the foil because they're already fully colonized by the time they're placed on it. Colonizing mycelium secretes acids and other metabolites to help break down the substrate. Fortunately, they don't effect glass or plastic.

I'd suggest black plastic fruiting trays.

man, mycelium is really cool stuff, i was gonna be picking up some cheap trays when i try casings, but im now just gonna gow with plastic containers, i can get deeper ones of them aswell so could be better, get more substrate and casing in the plastic microwaveable containers.
