This is a work in progress, and will be updated.
I have compiled Angryshrooms' and Eris' photos, along with a list and description of the known Amanita muscaria variants.

Excellent work
Implee: Yeah, yessup had a short span (early this year I think) where he found one, then found a bunch, and assorted species.

I've seen A. muscaria in Crosby, TX. Close enough to Houston to matter.

I once lived in fowl river, Alabama. In the woods surrounding us, in October, were literally hundreds of the flavivolvata var. I knew they were actives, but that was all. I had enough doubt to not try them, but am considering going back this year to harvest them. If the landscape hasn't been too altered.
Whats the best and safest ways to consume them in your opinion? In what ways are its active effects different from psilocybin in your opinion?
Thanx and good fekkin' work. People need these resources, and you're supplyin' 'em.
-------------------- My favorites are weeping willows, which aren't really weeping at all. They're very wispy, witty and will dance in the breeze with you. Nothing like a tree that wants to dance with you. Although it doesn't like its thin limbs being pulled at all, it absolutely LOVES it when you walk through them, letting them gently slide over your face and shoulders. If you're naked, the willow considers it to be sex. It will orgasm on your mind and you will blow dream chunks into outer space. All very fun until your neighbor sees you. -The Joekenorer

Best and safest way, IMO, is to cook them, ingest them with a light meal.
Check past posts for endless pontification on these wonderful mushrooms.

I think both the dull, and the bright yellow/orange collections you found are either of the A. muscaria var. guessowii or A. muscaria var. persicina variations.
A. muscaria var. aureola, as well as A. muscaria var. regalis don't seem to be native to North America, as I am having trouble finding info on them in english. So they were not considered in regards to your collections.
