Couple of advanced cultivating method questions..
    #7308740 - 08/18/07 08:58 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

Ok ill start with my substrate question.

Ok im wondering about adding gypsum to unpasteurized but hydrated h/poo and mixing a few times a day for a few days before pasteurizing to level out the PH. Then pasteurize and allow to sit after pasteurizing for a day or 2-3 (sterile environment just because) to allow the micronutes to break down shit into nitrogen.... Is this plausible?

Second Question about supplementing oxygen.

Grew MJ for awhile prior to growing shrooms and I use to supplement CO2 via a regulated paintball gun tank. In this idea I want to supplement O2 via regulated O2 tank (unfortunate old people edition, you know) I can't think of one reason that this wouldn't be a good idea so im asking?

By the way I will be posting pics hopefully 2marrow of my interpretation of the best multi-tasking growing chamber period.

Thanks in advanced for your insight.

Gypsum won't change the pH.

No, you definitely want to inoculate the pasteurized substrate immediately after it has cooled down from pasteurization.

The air you breath already contains 20% oxygen(compared to 0.3% CO2), no need to supplement any.

So an atmosphere with boosted levels of O2 wouldnt benifit growth?? I will be supplementing anyhow. To me its just logical to do so if you can.

As far as the gypsum in the horse shit prior to pasteurizing what would it do then if nothing for the PH. Im betting it does help bring the acid levels down. Then agian thats why im asking.

O2 supplementation is a waste of time. They need fresh air exchange, not oxygen.

As fro pH, use a little lime if you need to adjust it- but get a testing kit so you aren't working blind.

dont waste time and money on giving the shrooms pure oxygen from tanks. just get a humidifier and and a air pump

+1 about the oxygen supplementation.

Look at it this way, it's not that the need more oxygen pumped in so much as they need an effective way to prevent their "exhaled" CO2 pumped out as often and as regularly as possible.

This is what we accomplish with FAE (Fresh Air Exchange) through fanning/fans/etc.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

Hardly.

>I will be supplementing anyhow. To me its just logical to do so if you can.

Go ahead, waste some oxygen, don't bother asking next time.

>As far as the gypsum in the horse shit prior to pasteurizing what would it do
>then if nothing for the PH.

It adds calcium and sulphate to the substrate and it improves the structure.

>Im betting it does help bring the acid levels down.

And I am telling you that is won't affect the pH.

>Then agian thats why im asking.

Why bother asking if you don't listen to the answers? Stupid attitude.
