Modern Media: reporting from the herd, about the herd, and telling us how we feel about the herd.
    #7294493 - 08/14/07 04:10 PM (16 years, 7 months ago)

Sometimes all I can do is laugh.... I have run out of faces to make to show disgust and contempt.

How do we let the media get away with this?
"tonight at 10, find out about story x and how you feel about it".

they are reporting about us to us. As the political season is gearing up, I find more and more polls and reports telling me about me, and telling me how I feel.
are we engrossed with being "up to date" so we have something to talk about.... or do we watch it thinking the news is reporting about "those other people"?

"polls show that 40% of people dont pay attention to polls"..... wtf? why is that newsworthy?
it is kind of like "fortune telling" where they dont really tell you about your future, but describe your past in broad terms.

imagine a concert where the singer says "You guys are having a great time!" instead of "are you having a great time?".

"tonight at 11: watch to see why a majority of americans feel dubious about gas prices".

oh shit! dude, turn that on, I gotta see why i feel dubious about gas prices.

the second step in the two step program is pushing the off button and refusing to push the on button.

Eh, the diamond industry has convinced many American women that a diamond is the only suitable way to propose marriage, and American men that it should cost three-month's salary.

WTF?

I love what bill maher said about diamonds...

Quote:

"Women think about diamonds the way men think about sex, the way leeches think about blood," Bill Maher once remarked. "But diamonds have a lot of blood on them, even without the terrorist connection... because diamonds are mined in Africa by rebel armies, and the rebel armies control the territory and make the villagers mine the diamonds, and they control them through terror, through such lovely things as cutting off the arms of the little children - something you never see in the De Beers commercials.
"Now, I told this to a woman recently, who was only about the nicest person I've ever met - but she is a woman. And I told her about Africa and the armies and the rebels and the terror and the cutting off the arms of the little children. And she looked up at me with a little sad face and said, 'Both arms?'"

hmm
i was in the post office and the chatterwocky was talking about bombs and how the police will save everyone from them by having 1000 policemen doing something or other

do people really think about this on a daily basis? they
apparently
tell us to think about it on a daily basis

well, i am going to go on CNN and i am going to talk about an insurgency of leprechauns threatening the safety of our children
there will be a lucky charms task force designed to patrol the area and make sure no cereals are left unattended
if you see unattended cereals please call 911 immediately, because we are at leprechaun threat level BLUE MOOON

the leprechauns will say that their cereal is delicious but, silly rabbit, lucky charms is for kids, so don't let the damn leprechauns sucker you into taking our cereals away, they hate us for our cereals
IT IS OUR CEREAL DAMN IT
we are proud to have pots of gold and rainbows.
you are either with us or against us, remember, its about your children
there are leprechauns everywhere !

The herd is interested in what the rest of the herd is doing so that they can be certain to do it, too.

Why are you watching TV, anyway?  Bahhhhh...bahhh...

Yeah. My TV has been in storage for a couple of years now, and it's looking more and more like it'll be listed on Ebay soon.

i ought to go in a tree so its energy is transmuted

idea courtesy of altered again
who got his idea from elsewhere as we all do

shiny women looking at me in the after images of light sources aside,
(well i just randomly wanted to mention i sometimes see such things this isn't anything inherently to do with this discussion but say hello to her for me?)

what ....

ummm ermmm um

oh yes

this is the point:

The war is going good. Good and bad are all in our heads. America is therefore a free country. The police-men are kynd. They look the other way.

It's all good.

who else sees shiny women?

Let that stuff air out in an evaporating pool or something.
From what I've heard there is a lot of chemical remediation going on.

Oh don't worry about the salmon, right??
Hey this guy can genetically engineer a salmon to be three times as fat and twice as long.
Think of that...
Oh wait...
Yeah their sterile and the whole spawning cycle is fucked.

Great work.

do it now?

what if i do it at the later which is also now?

how can the procrastinator crastinate if there is no pro?

i mean that sounds dangerous honestly to hollow it out, how do you do that?

how does it sound dangerous? it's not like it's an atomic bomb.

i'd assume that if it can be built, it can be taken apart, no?

in any case, i think it sends a silent message, that things can always be done differently.

Into the chipper it goes.
Glue, stir, and a press...
Medium Density Fiberboard
Is what builds bird houses the best.

"MDF has many advantages over plank wood, particleboard, or high density fiberboard. It's very smooth because the wood fibers used in its manufacture are uniform and fine. This makes it have low "tear out," which means that when sawed, the end has a smooth cut instead of a jagged edge. This also means that a coat of primer and a couple of coats of paint take well, leaving an attractive, finished surface unlike other composite wood products. MDF also has a mild reaction to moisture, meaning it won't warp or swell in high-humidity applications like a bathroom cabinet."

:blazed:
