LC jars in pc cooker relieved themselves
    #7253927 - 08/03/07 12:08 AM (16 years, 7 months ago)

So a week ago i had a dilemma with my pressure cooker and LC. I couldnt fit the jar inside the 8qt pc, so put it in sideways.... well, after 15minutes i took it off heat, opened it later on expecting what i knew what would happen.....the jar was half empty and honeywater all over in it. I figured this would happen because of the pressure build up and then shoot out of the 'goop' self healing port i made....

But now a week later, i found another Presto PC, but double the size, at walmart, and 10$ less then the smaller one (same brand, and got it from shopco) and alot better, so returned the old and got this one. Now i can do the jar upright....and not jsut one at a time.

To avoid the same pressure build up inside the can again...im going to need to do something different.... like apply the goop after pc'ing. Anyone have any ideas? I dont want to leave the "goop" on the jar lid inside the PC either cause im scared it will heat it up so much that it turns to hard to even insert the syringe(does that happen with goop ?)

I've read many of the how to's using search and still nothing i could see.
thanks guys/gals
paz~

Umm, im not sure what you mean by goop, but let me tell you what I do.

Take a cup of water, and add about 5 grams of honey. Boil this and then poor it into your perfectly clean jar and add the lid. After it cools down you can add your spore syringe. There you go, no PCing required. I really don't think you would need a PC, seeing as all your doing is putting boiling water into a clean jar. I've never had any problems and I dont even own a PC. Good luck.

you should let your pc cool all the way before you open it.

You can PC silicone if that's what your 'goop' is.

I let the pc cool for neerly 25 minutes after pc'ing for 15 min.

I had the same thing happen with silicone, it bubbled out from the hot steam coming from the l/c..i'd imagine that an lc inside a pc would have a double boiler effect, and essentially heat the water untll it steamed out...you can try to adjust and leave the lid slightly loose to allow the steam to escape..i would imagine that a really good seal on a steam generating jar probably wouln;t end up a 'good' thing.

thanks for the input guys, and yes i let it dry for i think 4 days cause i wasnt in a rush. I was thinking i should try out what lightning bolt said... or just leave the inoc. holes un-gooped and then goop them after everything is cooled and alright

and thankyou n2dEePe
