In August, I will spent a week in Indonesia.
What can you tell me about travelling there with respect to laws ans politics? Anyone been?

Stay away from any illegal activity, especially drugs. They have some real harsh drug laws there, I've heard.

Follow all laws and customs, even those that seem weird. Don't assume you have the same rights that you would have in the US, because you don't.
Free speech
Right to counsel
Search and seizure
And some other rights are missing too. Not just in Indonesia, lots of places. Actually, Indonesia is probably safer than say, Russia. The fact that they will cut your hand off if you are caught stealing probably reduces pickpocketing.

Governments in muslim countries are influenced by the unholy quran to some extent. I don't know how much Quranic (Islamic) law is in place in Indonesia, but in most places that have this type of law, non-muslims have no rights at all and can't even testify in court. Muslims can treat you like shit, rob you, rape you, etc. and you can't do a thing except escape from the shit hole. The really bad thing is that fanatic muslims believe the entire world should be under Quranic law and the hippies are helping the muslims do it.

For the love of christ do not have anything to do with any kind of drugs over there and make sure to check your bags before going any institutional facility. That poor Australian woman got life in prison a few years ago down there because someone stashed some pot in her bag. Why would you even want to go to such a place?
