Old San Pedro
    #7160756 - 07/11/07 12:56 PM (16 years, 8 months ago)

i recently came across an old Trichocereus Pachanoi aka san pedro that i am currently debating as to whether or not i should acquire for extraction purposes. Does anyone know if an older cactus (maybe the correct word is beat up)is any worse to use for an acid/base extraction than fresh cactus cuttings?

the picture is not great as you can see, but it gets the job done. Would this cactus work just as good as fresh cut san pedro? You can see in the picture that some of the skin on the cactus is peeling, scraped, and have a brownish color to it. but, most of the skin appears to be healthy green.

I need about 400 grams minimum, or approximately 0.88 pounds of dried healthy green skin for the extraction process. This cactus is about 3.5 feet tall(42"), 4 inches thick at the base, and somewhere near about 7 pounds.

Can anyone tell me if this cactus is a good candidate for my project ,or not? could I get a little under a pound of nice green dried skin from this cactus?

that does look pretty beat up, i don't imagine that it would make much difference though.

The more beat up it is the stronger it is meant to be

yes, its pretty beat. I just dont want to waste costly materials like NaOH, HCl, and xylene on something that wont even work. And remember, I'm not just taking into consideration the fact that its beat up a bit, but also if i can even get 400g dried skin out of this cactus based on the stats i listed. So if anyone knows for sure, holler at me.

Mescaline is a natural defense created by the cactus. The more its beat up the more mescaline its going to produce.

i guess that sounds like some accurate info., im about 80% convinced, but do you have some kind of source or link you can provide me with that will back this up? I guess my first question is pretty much answered, so moving on to the skin....

Would a cactus of this size provide me with at least a good minimum of 400g dried skin? (refer to the cactus stats in my first post)

hmm you think the more damage the cactus had went through, the little he would, unless there is evidence (of mescaline oozing more and more out each time you hit it with a bat.)
then its still rather questionable. it takes like a foot and a half to get me fuuucked up
