help green mold!
    #7138193 - 07/06/07 04:34 PM (16 years, 8 months ago)

Ok so theirs three tubs of horse poo and straw that have been colonizing. all were doing fine. Today one got cased (doin great), but the other two have slightly slowed(damn near full colonization) in growth and have two small spots of green mold. I figure too much moisture in the substrate. Going to cut out the small mold spots and mix in some dry vermiculite, see if the myc can flourish in day or two. Any thoughts?

try and save it but you are fighting a loseing battle you already have so many green mold spores just wating there and once ya start cutting into it they are just gonna spread more. try and save it if you have the time but it probly wont work. Once I see the littlest bit of green its time to toss the case and start cleaning up.

In any case...

1) That looks way too green, way too patchy and overriding the myc, not spread over it.

2) Get it *out* of the house. If it's that dark green, it's already heavily sporulating.

As xax said it's hard to tell in that pic, but it looks like blueing to me. Looks like it might just be the lighting that makes it look green.

You can tell better then us looking at it. If you're sure it's trich; Get it out like Cap said. If you're not sure let it sit for a bit; If it is Trich you will be sure in several days.

Also this is the wrong forum for this post. See contamination forum.

If green shows up in bulk substrates prior to first flush, it almost always indicates the spawn was contaminated. However, that is way too wet, so there's a possibility if it took too long to colonize, the uncolonized portions may have been overtaken by molds. It's a waste of time to try to cut molds out of bulk substrates. I'd suggest burying it into a pile of compost or manure outdoors. It will probably fruit when conditions improve.

When you try to cut 'green' mold out, you only spread it. The mold mycelium is white. Only the spores are green. It's like trying to cut the 'black' spores off your substrate after a flush, as if that is going to remove the mushroom mycelium.

my bad about the forum. I never had a problem with trichs until after flushes, so as you can imagine im quite discouraged. I Just hope the good tub isnt infected at a point I cant see.
