Never say never... cubes found in mulch (second flush started)

ok, so I've heard people say you'll not find cubes anywhere in the wild other than cow pies and horse poo.
What are these?
Check out what the stems are growing out of...
I wanna clone this guy.
I wanna transplant the myc on this one to another substrate... like coir or something.
The purple on the caps is spores. They wipe off. There are purple spores on all the stems, and blue bruising as well. They were found at one apartment complex growing in mulch around trees. I'm going back later next week to see if I can get more.

Very pretty PinHeadX. I suspect there is some poo under the wood mulch, and the mulch is just acting like a casing layer.
I'd love to see some in situ shots.

didn't have a camera with me at the site where I found them. I wish I had, though.
they have light gills, but purple rings and bluing.
I think the poo was mixed in with the mulch. I'm pretty sure they do that alot, because I see other dung lovers (dung cups and sphinctrinus) in the same mulch at different times. These were apparently in with the poo and colonized well because of all the rain we've been having.
I was really surprised at the find myself, and I'm very cautious about getting the wrong mushrooms, but these are cubes. I only really found these 'cause I like kicking over all the Chlorophyllum molybdites and such that grow at this property. I thought these were an agaricus or something at first, but when I got up close and saw the caps, then checked for purple on the stems. Bluing was my last clue...

if this is someone's outdoor patch, then they spread them out over about a hundred feet. They were found in four different piles of mulch.

The only time i have heard of cubes growing from mulch is when i personally cultivated them, using the mulch as a sort of casing layer. But the ones i did never turned out quite so good as those beauties.

Well if he is trurly located in the gulf coast its not that unlikley he came across a fair pile of well colinized manuremixed with mulch ,Down here farmers often pile up manure on the sides of the roads in deep boon docks. You run in to piles every so mile or whatever and its common to see them poping up in there.Ive seen them come up in new subdivsions yard ,(people where occupieing thehouse) and ive even had them come up in my yard .But this is probly due to countless outdoor pattie operations lol

Yup, but I'm on the Texas Gulf Coast. Or very near the coast. I think the load of mulch they used had goodies in it, and they basically just spread them around a bit.

i was sitting here thinking i was the only one in the world that enjoyed kicked a nice big mushroom. the giant puffballs are my favorite though. they smell bad immediately after you punt them, and mushroom clumps land everywhere.
but im guessing thats some one's ourdoor patch as well. if you have some leftover, dry it out and put it in a bag for the poor guy/girl.

Yeah, i love it when the rotten chunks get all caked and dried onto my boots!!
Pisolithus tinctorius aka "Dead Mans Foot" is my favourite puffball to kick, thus far. Best kicked on asphalt- really gets the spore clouds rolling! I often end up coated in yellow/brown spores as a result.
