 wanted to share a couple pics of my FC

still awaiting its first fruits however i finished up creating my FC this evening.. nothing special but i think it'll get the job done.
there are holes on each side, including the bottom to allow gas exchange, but ill also be fanning atleast 2-3 times daily.
theres also a small light mounted on the inside of the FC.
what you guys think? and i plan on creating something a little nicer and more spacious in the next several months. money is just a little tight right now.

Awesome dude, but I'd stick the light on the outside unless you think it'll hold up to the humidity..

yeah, the light is a reptile light, doesnt really even generate all that much heat, esp with me fanning several times daily.. the light also has a nice plastic shield on the outside of it.
im thinking it should work quite nicely for what i need.. which is pretty much light just there to give the mushrooms a direction and help keep humidity up.
also, i dont have anything that reads humidity... anyone have any preferences in terms of something that reads both humidity and temp... and something not very expensive.. i havent looked on ebay yet.

A very strong FC you did here... now, as long as you can see plenty of water-pearls on the inside of the box the shrooms are very happy and will grow a bit as if they where in heaven. Nothing else is actually needed; and by the way, do not fan too often... do not disturb their privacy to often... but if you like fanning you may become one of my first fans. OK. People around here make to much fuzz about gas exchange anyway... When I do my famous time-lapse vids, I'm forced to not lift the top of the box at all... and they don't care if they do not get air. Deeddel...didel... dance... hey.. it rimes.... they don't care if they do not get fresh air... how about that... do you know a producer?
Top of the box stayed on for the whole time.

They do care if they don't get air. You'll get a very poor pinset without several air exchanges per day at the very least. Four to five per hour are recommended. Water beads on the inside of the terrarium have NOTHING to do with humidity. They indicate a temperature differential, nothing else.
You want your light outside the terrarium. Fluorescent ballasts generate a high voltage, and that doesn't go with near saturation humidity at all. In addition, a fluroescent ballast and light inside will heat your terrarium a lot. It will be over 90F in there within a few hours.
Also, the heat will lower humidity, not raise it.

so my FC sucks? is that what ur telling me?
im telling you, this light isnt a flouro, im not sure its so sort of extremely low output reptile light. obviously it wont put it up over 90F since the light is designed to run 24 hours inside a reptiles cage.
ill try my way with my 2 first cakes and if they turn out like shit, then ill bow down and listen.

Whether or not you listen about the light is your business, but fanning is a good thing.
My FC has 216 holes (yes I counted) on all sides. I still fan the thing at least once every hour while I am home. The more fresh air, the better the yield and the smaller chance of contamination. There really isn't any reason not too.

i wouldnt have to leave the light on 24 hours a day either though.. they only need what.. 12 hours a day.
ill definetely fan them, ive always read that gas exchange is very important.. and i think im going to put more holes in my FC.. I only put about 15-20. lol.
anyone link me to a good tool for reading humidity and temperature.

i just started my batch of WBS to soak, made up my syringes and got my jars cleaned up and ready to be pc'ed in the morning. so once i inoculate, i will be starting to build my FC. i have TONS of ideas, as i always tend to come up with these crazy contraptions... my biggest idea was that since they are going to be in a 8'Wx4'D closet with a bar hanging about 5' off the ground... i was gonna take an old, but unused, dual caged squirrel motor fan that goes to a large (handled a 4,000ft2section of lab before being de-commissioned) Air Exchanger unit, suspend it from the bar and hook it into this timer i have that can cycle at up to every 2mins (way more than needed) but set it to cycle on for 15-20mins intervals every 1.5 hours. it's gentle enough and far enough away to keep a

yeah, once i start building my permanent FC, ill use 2 computer fans at each end of the chamber for gas exchange.
im still deciding what i want to build.. i have several ideas as well.

My new time-lapse in progress - NO fanning at all - 2 inches of plain water inside the box - NO Perlite
Written by your kind permission, it is not true what they write. Sorry everybody, I better beg your pardon in advance. FACTS are: I masked five of the six holes in order to keep the humidity high. Since 12 days I did NOT fan at all - because of the time-lapse setup one should not touch the box. And as you can see the shrooms look very healthy and are also quite big. It is not needed to fan, just spray some water from time to time on to the inside of the plastic box - in order to spray, one must remove the top box, or the lid, anyway, and this is more then enough to get in a bit of fresh air for the shrooms.
I think the time has come to use the new tek, and we can, without any risk, also cut off the old wings... Please try it for yourself and you will be surprised how fantastic your smart shrooms will look.... and taste... smile me.
Right from the beginning I sprayed many daily units of water through one single hole, because I can not move or touch the top-box.

Banez...for what it's worth, if you don't heed RR's advice, your reptile light (whatever components that might consist of) is likely sensitive to humidity. I've known people with several reptiles (geckos, bearded dragons, turtles) and they've all had a hell of a time finding a lighting "system" (can't think of a better word) that they could have in a humid environment that didn't end up rusting and getting nasty.
If you do NOT experience this, please, for the love of god post a followup because I will be a hero when I pass along your find.

it's just as easy to do something like this for an automatic fruiting chamber.

I was saying the same thing as RR earlier. I don't think the light will fry your shrooms, I think the humidity may ruin your light. Electronics don't mix with water, usually. Everything else looks stellar to me dude, but I'm no vet here.

Besides the light I think everything is good. For the Humidity/Temp thing get yourself a Digital Hydrometer &Thermometer in one. I know PetCO and PetSupermarket stock them for about like $7-$10 USD so it isn't too expensive.
