Seems like it should work. I'd use the unscented kind. But real desiccant isn't very expensive- I saw a little tub at Walgreen's for about $5.

I'd lean towards no, although kitty litter is great as a substitute for dryzit, a product used to absorb fluid spills like anti-freeze and motor oil. I just think it lacks the ability to pull moisture out of the aire the way that desiccant does. The most common brand you are going to find is called "Damp-rid", and it's at most hardware stores.

damp rid is Calcium chloride, where as the desiccant in kitty litter is Silica gel. They both work well, though i prefer silica gel.
