Meeting a "loser"
    #7030267 - 06/10/07 02:14 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

A couple nights ago, I was talking with someone else outside of a party, when this guy strolled by on his bike, overhearing our conversation. He talked to us about his own life, with great despair in his voice. He was homeless, an alcoholic, high on meth, possibly schizophrenic(though it may have just been the meth), and a self-proclaimed "loser." He seemed to be looking for help, but did not want to accept that he was the only person who could help himself. It would easy to condemn him for being the cause of his own problems, which is true. But I prefer to view this fact from the perspective of compassion rather than condemnation. But what can a compassionate being do for someone who is so lost?

That's a tough question. Well, just let the world sort him out...

Or you can pay for his therapy and have him reliable upon you for the rest of his or your life.

He probably just wanted someone to talk to. I've talked to a bunch of homeless ppl that are just lonely and want someone to give them some kind of time of day.

Maybe feed him some mushrooms?

I would go with what Cracka said. Some homeless people just love to talk, and while they may have their vices, we can't forget about our own.

Back when I used to skateboard a lot my friends and I would go downtown a lot, and sometimes we would spend hours talking to the homeless people  . There is an entire culture with homeless people, and I would go so far to say that many of them have more culture and personality than a lot of people we see in our daily lives.

Just curious if his intruded conversation eluded to him wanting you to give a monetary donation to "help" him....?

As a compassionate person you follow your intuitive heart. You may do nothing but offer a word. It's important to let others reap what they need from their actions. In the end maybe it's a crap shoot. What could you have done that would have changed his mind? What?

"Maybe feed him some mushrooms?"

My thoughts exactly.;)
Although that experience can be a little cruel it does speak for itself.
Baptism by fire??

Then again that experience could shatter what he has left and with no frame of reference he'll think that he's surely gone crazy.

I almost got into a fight with a crackhead the other day. I was standing outside work, having an important phone call, and this fucker comes by on his bike saying "hey, man, hey! gimme a cigarette".
I said "dude, go away, im on the phone".
he then proceeds to tell me to go fuck myself and that I didnt have to be rude about it.
After exchanging various forms of "Fuck you" to each other, I told him if he didnt leave, I would beat his ass and when the cops got here, he would be the one going to jail.
He kept saying "bring it on" as he rode away on his bike.

Every single night i leave work, I have atleast 3 crackheads asking me for change and cigs. They are everywhere here.
I used to try and treat them with compassion, then it became pity. Now I have no compassion or pity for them.
Sure, there are a few cool bums, and even fewer who are homeless out of preference. But the rest of them are pure degenerate scum, wasting oxygen, only motivated by pure selfishness and addiction.

The problem I have with bums is that they prey upon the compassion of people.
So often I hear the story "im from out of town trying to get a bus ticket" or "my car ran out of gas, I just need a couple of bucks to get home".
Im sure that one of those people I have encountered with that story was actually telling the truth... which sucks, because I would have liked to help that person out.

Many people think I am "mean" to bums, but when you have to interact with them everyday, you realize that they are beyond help and anything that you do for them isnt going to help them.

This is not the best idea.
Even if mushrooms are good for me and you it doesn't mean that they're good for everybody.
It is true that there are cases in which psychedelic therapy helped some people recover from addiction, but this requires strict surveillance, 24/7 support and much much more.
You can't tell for sure what a meth head thinks or what psychological issues he has and I truly believe that just feeding him mushrooms is totally irresponsible and a thing which could have worse effects than giving him money to buy meth.

True.

"Then again that experience could shatter what he has left and with no frame of reference he'll think that he's surely gone crazy."

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of something positive coming from the experience though.

I don't hate you
:sorry: if I gave you that impression.
I realized that you were joking from your " " after you made that suggestion.
Still I needed to clear that up because it's a thing that I've been hearing amongst many psychedelic users which are so overwhelmed by their new discovery and think that everybody will have great experiences. Which is not the case.

Peace?  :getstoned:

Yes, in my heart I realize that I did all I could, but it's just sad to see how futile it is.

How can you judge which of your actions are futile and which aren't? His life's unfoldment is not over and it may be that your presence in it, however brief, has some positive effect.

Yeah I was just playing with ya. :heartpump: The I love you comment was just poking fun at guys on forums who nutjock all over girls who post on them. Though, it doesn't seem to be the case on the shroomery. In any case, I still love you, in an anonymous internet forum member sort of way.:tongue2:

Agreed....
Thinking of yourself as a loser, being addicted to heavy narcotics, thinking you are skitzo~, and not having a home -
IMO are not a good combo of "set and setting" for a positive psychedelically therapeutic session's outcome....
