mycopath.com fungi bag
    #7026407 - 06/09/07 12:14 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

I bought the 1 pound pre-sterilized rye fungi bag with self healing injection site(from mycopath.com) and inoculated it as soon as i received it. My spores came from a reliable source(sporestore.com). However, it has now been 2weeks and absolutely nothing has happened. No growth. The bag is stored in darkness in temps 80-84F. two days ago, i decided to inject some mycelium from an LC into my fungi bag, and still no change has occured. What am i doing wrong? I can't tell you how disappointing it is. :frown:

Either your conditions are not proper (temperature too high, spores not viable), or your bag is contaminated. You could contaminate the bag in any number of ways at inoculation, but we'd need pics to tell.

Yeah I raised an eyebrow at this one too. Unless someone sprayed Lysol in the bag something should grow in there. Especially if you have a viable LC. At the very least you should have mold or bacteria in there by now. Secondary injections of different strains I don't recommend for two reasons. First your messing with your moisture content. Second some strain are just slow to begin with. I've had spores that just take a long time to germinate before ( just under two weeks ). Especially since I use low incubation temperatures mid 60s. I like using low temps for a couple reasons. First it is disadvantageous to bacteria. Second it's expensive to use space heaters to heat up the basement so I don't care if the spores take a while to germinate. I'm not in a hurry.

So did the bag ever take off or did it go south or what?

It's very difficult for us to tell what's up with your bag. You've presented a number of unlikely scenarios (either the mycopath bag was contaminated, which I'd highly doubt, or both spores, and LC were bad).

Isolated experiments, not hanging on to dying projects = the best way to handle this. That, and pictures.

Sometimes like Chuckleheard said, it just takes more time. I never have trusted nutrient based LC's

Alas! I just checked my bag and it is starting to show mycelium. I guess somethings just take a really really long time. I should have been more patient.

I'm moving this out of the Vendor/Sponsor forum...

please don't ask growing related questions in there.

I'll move this to the Mush Cult.

Did you shake/mash up the bag before you shot it up?

They'll settle alot during shipping and arrive too compacted.
