Looks like a shroom-fight is taking place on this cake...
Any idea what might have caused it? Could they be spores from different strains fighting for the rice cake?

With multispore inoculation, it's common for two or more strains to make it to fruiting. They usually combine into a whole via the process of anastomosis, but some strains are incompatible and remain separate. They don't fight, being that they're the same species. Fruiting is not impaired either as you can see. The same often happens when someone injects one side of a cake with one strain, and another side of the cake with a different strain.
Agreed, get the cakes off the perlite. You're lucky they didn't waterlog or waste energy trying to colonize the perlite.

I actually thought "fight" was the right word to describe this situation, because the shrooms in the right, seemed a little fragile and, even tho its the first flush, they have very weak/thin stems, plus, they are running away (j/k) 
Isn't it possible that the fat shrooms sucked all the energy from the other strain, leaving them hungry? It is very possible that i accidentaly mixed spores from 2 different syringes by the way...
Thanx about the perlite comment, i always thought its good for the cakes to suck some extra water from their base....at later flushes i do get waterlogged cakes tho....and mycelium spreading down there....hmmm energy loss....hmmmmm

Ha-ha. Anyway, it would be interesting to see if you could do this repeatably and intentionally with very different-looking strains. You know, PE on one side, BPK on the other or something.

but i would like to see this reproduced.... it would be a good way to compare which strain likes what conditions better...
