Folks,
is it ok to dunk cakes that already have began to form knots for the first time?

yeah it's okay. you really have two options wait for the first flush then dunk or go ahead and dunk at room temp. i say room temp because putting it in the fridge just hinders growth no need for that.

But doesn't dunking via fridge help hinder contams?

so you reccommend dunking before placing the jars in the FC for the first time?
i just ask because im in the process of incubating rite now and am trying to plan ahead a bit, i havent yet decided whether to put them in the FC immediately after pinning, or dunk them first.

yes the colder temps help the myc. from contams but if you got sterile water in an enclosed airtight container or ziplock bag then what's the problem?

yes dunk em before you put em in the FC and after each flush.

i dunk before first flush just for increased moisture of the cakes, makes more pins.
just take em out.. wash cleanly under faucet(tap water or if your stingy then spring water from store) and then fill a clean bucket and put cakesin and put plate on top to keep em submerged in darkness (maybe add a flat book or something on top so its dark) for 24 hours.
then dunk & roll, add the double end casing tek.. then place in fruiting chamber. wait 7-14 days for pins max. and they should be fruiting.
fan regularly. and mist walls of fruiting chamber. or quivalent thru another tek or design.
2-3 fans a day minimum.. i do it when i wake up and go to sleep. or when i get lunch etc... just mist whenever your fanning cause it loses that humidity its built up thus far.

alright, ill do what u said, ill probably just dunk them at room temperature. and use distilled water.

There's no need for distilled water, unless your local tap water is bad. Rinse under the faucet both before and after the dunk. Wait one week after full colonization, then do a dunk and roll. Room temp works fine, but I'd suggest taking them out at 12 hours and rinsing again, and changing the dunk water for fresh. I dunk in a large kettle, with a heavy glass dinner plate to hold the cakes under water.

yeah i guess RR's right again...no NEED for distilled water i just use it cause i ALWAYS have it in my house thanks to my wonderful GF
