 Brain Heart Infusion Agar?

I was searching for agar online and found some called Brain Heart Infusion Agar, with %5 sheep's blood. Unlike other types of agar, this one looks like it only supports fungi growth:

That site has a ton of different agar mixes, some that come with antibiotics mixed in to help fight contaims. Would these be better than normal MEA and PDA agar?
They also carry Sabouraud Agar.
Sabouraud Agar : Used for fungi and has a low pH that will kill most bacteria. It contains gentamicin, which is a aminoglycoside antibiotic. Gentamicin can also treat many different types of bacterial infections, particularly Gram-negative infection.

No, because they can grow other kinds of fungi. That you really not won't.I would go with the pda.The only time that you really should use a antibiotic agar.Is if you're cleaning up wild spores.For a much cheaper way, try using cardboard.

You are just looking for troubles with the blood agar its made for growing viruses and bacteria not molds and mysc and you will end up with some super virus on there.

you know a long time ago i had a post about a theory of mine, something along the lines of mushrooms contain a drug so that when an animal eats it, it gets confused and is more likely to die near the area of the mushroom
hence leading to the mushroom below the soil eventually eating material left from this animal....at the very least the animal is going to fertilize the soil.
anyways someone said mushrooms don't eat animals and now at least I know they eat blood

makaveli8x8...actually your statement reminds me of some reading I did in college a few years back about the cult of the Fly Agaric. Reindeer in Siberia actually *did* harbor a severe, and often fatal, love for mushrooms. They'd eat to their heart's content, and effectively pass out on the couch for a few days. This left them vulnerable to the humans around, who just walked up, and slit their throats (they get bonus points for the foresight to attach urine collection bags to the animals, thereby getting the agaric actives, without toxins).
There has been some speculation as to whether this would yield psychedelic steak or not

That agar is most likely way too expensive and wouldn't be suitable for the type of work you are doing. Most agar that is sold from lab supply stores is optimized for the "lower" fungi like molds and mildews which tend to prefer most acidic environments. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong on that.
Anti-biotic agar can be useful for some isolation work, but if you are just starting off the remember the KISS method. Keep It Stupid Simple

hi there, sorry I'm a bit new to all this forum stuff... i have access to lots of lab equipment and would just like to say that spores grow fine in brain heart media, and it is a perfect way to store in the fridge. Also if you can get hold of blood culture bottles (aerobic, pediatric and mycology ones all work perfectly, and come complete with sterile injector sites on them.......
