pan subbs (06/07/07 UPDATES from yesterday and later that night!!!)
    #7011773 - 06/05/07 12:53 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

okay, this matches mushrooms demystified description, i only found one last year so i didn't pay too much attention but i found a decent amount of these today and i wanted to check because it doesnt quite look like pics or how i remember them... Its really wet out pardon the poor condition of mushrooms ... I remember a hairy stem on the one i found last eyar, but maybe it's absent because of the excess of rain lately?

other hunting pics below..

a. Habitat- found in michigan on aged horse manure piles thats over grown with 1-2 foot grasses after 4 days of rain and 60-80 degree weather during the days. I didn't bring my camera so i brought a handful back to take pics...

b.gills - adnate to adnexed

c. size
cap - flattens out to 1 inch- 1 1/2 inches across when mature
stem - about 1/8-1/4 inch think, 1 1/2-4 inches long

d. Characteristics of the stem (color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc) light-cinnamon colored hollow stem with kind of a twist to it.
e. Characteristics of the cap - convex when young, flattens to a plane when mature, light brownish to greyish, most had a band of darker color near the edge (a few had 3-4 bands across the cap, most were just a band near the edge)

f. Spore print - black

g. no obvious bruising although one that was ravaged by bugs had a very slight greenish hue to it

h. smelled like a wet mushroom (it was wet when i smelled)

pics....

OTHER PICS...

mycelium poking through log

slug party!

some coral fungus

a couple yellow mushrooms that somehow have survived the slew of mtn. bikers that ride this trail.

Some Oyster's growing on a tree hanging over a stream..

OTHER RECENT HUNT PICS.

One of my buddies from the frog pond i made last year, he's just chillin under some lemon balm in the garden on a warm day.

enjoy the pics, hopefully i can find some more oysters in better condition or some subbs or bluefoot before it dries back out. We had a rough start for a spring all the michigan rains missed us until this week (of what few michigan actually had so far this spring).

happy shroomin folks!

UPDATE JUNE 7:

more subbs, there's a few 'others' in the mix but mostly subbs.

prints. there were a few imposters that got weeded out here, but not many. Its hard to see the different sporeprints in the picture.

Panaeolus campanulatus ( i think)

primordia

a white spikey ball growing on a stick in the horse manure piles.

anyone?

a pretty flower, looks like it might be a columbine?

a moth

a bird

I found about 9 grams dried that first day, i expect maybe 10-15 dry out of yesterdays (gotta wait for them to finish drying). I'm headng back out today too sometime. I might go looking for bluefoots and oysters too, although i try not to get my hopes up and just try to find any mushrooms.

Nice pics. Look like subbs to me, a little bit dried out maybe, but if the spore print is black, then subbs is what you have.

I try to spend about 1-5 hours a day hunting mushrooms (provided it's not the middle of a long dry period, then i just hike and don't look so much) I spend at least 2 days a month on day long hikes looking too. I obviously can't make it out everyday but i try to.
