Using air filters as substitute for sterile bathrooms.
    #6984143 - 05/29/07 09:05 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

Ok, I now have mold growing in my bathroom under the sink, which is a problem because I dont think its a good idea to be working in a moldy bathroom. I plan on doing some casings/transfers tonight but the only specific sterile technique refers to me using my help filter which is currently on in my room.

I really dont know how well hepa filters clean out the air but I was thinking just working infront of the filter would possibly be even more sterile then working in a oust out bathroom. Anyone agree?

If that is a true HEPA filter, then it is you best option by far. The filter should say somewhere on it the % of air born particles it filters out. You want 99.9% I believe.

Unless it's a laminar flow hood, turn it off. Those silly $99 'hepa' filters from hardware stores are useless for mycology.

There is no such thing as a sterile bathroom or kitchen. Build a glovebox to do your work.
