1st Timer!! PICS!! PICS!! any input appreciated!!!

It is my understanding that it will not look like a fully colonized cake...
Here's my hypothetical set up.....
My cakes turned out great...I started with 16 and did the following:
I used 8 for the cake method and 8 for the casing method:
For the cake method:
I dunked 8 of them for about 8 hours (it was either 8 or 36 and 36 sounded dangerous) rolled in verm and have them in a FC with perlite and a Tropicaire humidifier...... FAE is done by a computer type fan that comes on for 15 minutes 4 times a day....Humidity peaks at 98%....drops to 68% by the end of fanning...
Temp fluctuates between 70 and 78....
Fluorescent strip light 12/12....
This was done 4 days ago...looks like I may have a few spots that could be called hyphal knots....??!!
see some hypothetical photos...my first attempt at mycoporn....
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
I've been misting with a misty mate a couple times a day...Is this a good idea? I thought since my dunk was a little short I'd compensate with misting...
For the cased method:
I did NOT dunk (based on RR's and others' advice); I then crumbled 4 cakes into each of 2 trays....I used a 50/50 blend of pasteurized Black Kow and verm...I layered the crumbled cakes with the kow/verm blend...used just a bit of 60/40 (coir/verm) on top when the 50/50 ran low...I misted some with a super fine mister filled with spring water....They are being stored/incubated in a TIT at 82-84 degrees...The same temp the jars were incubated at...
This also was done 4 days ago...I was gonna wait at least a week to peak (guess-ti mated it'd be done in 10 days) but just had to peak!
See more hypothetical photos....looks to be coming along nicely, BUT WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK??
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
[image]http://[/image]
And I couldn't resist and misted a little with the misty mate....??o.k. or am i screwing up?
Any pics of a fully colonized BRF to poo tray would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
When do you think this would be fully colonized and o.k. to apply my casing layer (I'll be using true 50/50 - peat/verm) and then Hyphae's pinning strategy, essentially from there...
any and all input would be greatly appreciated! -we're gonna be flyin' like a lion in Zion!

Good job, it's going to be close. I would get something to cover the side of that tray your casing is in, you may get pins trying to start from the sides.

It's in the dark (TIT) ....figured when It's totally colonized I'll put on the casing layer and follow Hyphae's Strategy...
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3290155/an/0/page/0
I'm thinking put on casing layer by the 23rd..."incubate" 3 days...put in FC on the 26-27th....initiate pinning triggers FAE, light, temp drop, etc....hope to have pins by the 4th or 5th...harvest the following week on the 12th....food dehydrator that night....crispy by the time I hit the road on the 13th!!!
I always love cutting things close!
I'll probably wrap the sides and bottom with foil before putting it in the FC...
If nothing else I hope the cakes at least get a decent yield...
Hope to harvest them in about a week to 10 days from now?
How long does a second flush on cakes usually take?
Do or die .... whatever hasn't completed by the 13th goes in the trash - the wife said I could experiment till then and that was it... compromise is the basis of all healthy relationships!

Those look good! Make sure you have holes in your FC. They need fresh air. I'm sure you will do fine, you should start to see some pins in about a week if not less.

I have a monotub with Black Kow and verm. (10-20% by volume) and it is looking pretty nice. I am not home, so I have to get updates from my roomate, but I have a post with the substrate fully colonized. Here is something to look forward to!

Who did the artwork for your title screens on your DVD? I think that would make an AWESOME T-shirt....maybe as an add on item with your DVD?
If you mean the little girls looking at the giant mushrooms, I did that one. It's an RR original.
The bulk tray should not be opened up during colonization to take pictures. That will cause early pinning from the reduction in CO2 levels, not light. You need to keep it closed up with gas exchange, but no massive amounts of air exchange such as happens with opening it all the way up.
I don't see any pins on the cakes yet, but shouldn't be long. What you're seeing there is aerial mycelium.
I've dunked for 36 hours before. I would think it would get a bit more moisture inside the cake than 12. Perhaps after first flush you can give it a longer dunk. Good luck. RR

When was the casing hypothetically added? Before the substrate colonized? The poo looks partially colonized; and there`s myc. popping out the casing. Usually the casing goes on once the poo colonizes 70-100%; to prevent the casing from overcolonizing before fruiting is induced. I doubt you`ll have much trouble though;looks good. Was this a strategy? IF so these folks would like to hear from you:

Thanks again for the pointers...I was wondering if I was shooting myself in the foot...didn't figure light would be an issue, but good to get a clarification on the potential effect of opening too soon/often...
For the casings: just trying to get some feedback on when to add the casing layer...It's hard to tell when the poo would be considered "fully colonized"...
AS FOR THE ARTWORK....are you kidding me?! that's amazing, RR....scientifically proficient AND artistically talented! Really really cool picture!.... I'll PM you about some ideas...I think you have some real opportunity there....

Check out these two posts.
This first one is def not ready. as you can see i posted a pic of one that was 101% colonized. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6936202#6936202
This next one, all the way in the bootom of the post the dude posted a pic of a tub 90% colonized. You can case at this point also as RR has said. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6912187/an/0/page/0

I guess maybe i need to be a little more clear... I covered this in detail in another thread...
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6895583/an/0/page/0
Here's the quick version...
Fully colonized cakes... No dunking, crumbled, covered with a 50/50 blend of pasteurized Black Kow and verm as a nutritive layer to ideally help with overall yield....Figured I'd let THAT fully colonize then cover with what is commonly referred to as a "casing layer" of 50/50+...and then follow Hyphae's pinning strategy and pray for a bumper crop by the 13th of June!!!
