How do you clean off an LCD screen that has a few stuck-on gunky areas on it? I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 notebook, and it's LCD screen is shiny. (laminated? i am not so familiar with computers lol.)
do i just turn it off and scratch it off, or is there some kind of solution that i should use? or am i just being over-protective of my computer, and just use a wet paper towel.
thank you

i use a damp paper towel followed by a dry on, seems to work well for me...
everytime ive used an lcd screen cleaning solution, it leaves it worse than it was before i cleaned it.

A little spit on a napkin works pretty good.

I just recently learned the 'wet paper towel' trick also. This actualy works on matte type LCDs pretty well. It evaporates and leaves no streaks whatsoever. Has to be paper tho, i tried a cloth first and it left streaks all over the place for some reason.

Careful. Using a paper towel is a good way to put micro-scratches on your screen.
Use cottonballs with alcohol. Always works like a charm.

Use diluted (50%) isopropyl alcohol.

I used to work at a laptop sales company and we ONLY cleaned screens with cotton and rubbing alcohol mixed with water. Im not sure the ratio because I never actually added the water, but from what the tech supervisors told me, it is the only way to ensure that nothing will harm the screen. Of course, we were cleaning and inspecting them to sell so we HAD to keep them in perfect condition.

Iso Alc is what you need to use...I was refering to Ethyl Alcohol, which is what most cleaners around the office have in them...DO NOT USE THOSE! Sorry should have made it clearer... They can actually dissolve the plastic on the LCD screen and cause some major scratches...
"Do not use any solutions that contain Acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride. Never touch the LCD screen with your fingers as this can cause the pixels to burn out"
