Help Me Find a Proper Hygrometer
    #6852366 - 04/30/07 02:58 AM (16 years, 11 months ago)

Now I know this topic has come up numerous times and yes I did search the forum for the relevant information. Unfortunately, the threads are either dead or filled with conflicting information and oppinions.

Now on to my point. I've been through over 5 hygrometers now ranging from your cheap ass walmart models up through the pricier radio shack models. Not one so far has been able to stay functional in high humidity environments. And unfortunately, the radio shack model, as seen here, Doesn't seem to produce accurate humidity readings:

I believe soaking it in the greenhouse probably led to its demise.

So here is where I need your input shroomery forum people. I need to know what works best for you under these circumstances. So far a wireless monitor with temperature AND humidity sensors seems like my best bet. My budget is around $50.

So far the best setup I found was this wireless Taylor model. Still, I can't tell if it transmits humidity and temperature or just temperature: http://www.ambientweather.com/ta14wirethhy.html

This Oregon Scientific model looks rather sufficient as well:

I've typed this hundreds of times, but here it goes again. Digital hygrometers are a piece of shit.

Go to a cigar shop and get an analog hygrometer for less than $20. Bring it home, wrap in a damp towel for an hour, then unwrap and adjust the screw on the back so it reads 99%. Repeat the calibration weekly for the first month or two, then once a month will be fine after that.

I'll take your word on it. I know from experience digital hygrometers are complete shit. However, I hear the analog hygrometers, especially the cigar ones, break at higher humidities. Who keeps their cigars at such a high humidity, anyway?

Oh well, off to the cigar shop. Thanks for your input.
