    #6841710 - 04/27/07 03:06 PM (16 years, 10 months ago)

should i expect that spores that were printed in 2002 may take a little longer than fresher prints? i strain is pes the other z...the z starting slow but the pes haven't started yet...no contams present at this time. jars were autoclaved at 20psi for 1 hr.

yep.  fresher spores on the average tend to germinate faster than older ones.  its normal.

Depending on storage conditions, they may not germinate at all. I've found that brand new fresh spores that are only a few days old, will only germinate about 1 or 2 out of 100. By one year, it's 1 or 2 spores out of 1,000 and it continues to decline from there.

i thinks since i ordered them like 1 year after sept11 and that whole 9/11 thing they were like sending letter throung a machine that kills spores and what not.. did alot of jars and not 1 of the inoculated jars started to colonize ( out of alot) wtf!!!! the prints were 5 years old but still not one contam or even a sprout
wtf??

Based on what RR said, I can definitely see how they wouldn't colonize. I'm sure he was just using it as an example, but after 1 year if it goes from 1 or 2 out of 100 to 1 or 2 out of 1000, I'm sure 5 years would be scarce to none. Usually with things of this nature there is some sort of exponential decay, as well, so that doesn't bode well.
