Houston TX backyard finds

I found what looks like an Amanita Muscaria growing in my backyard, as well as the remains of a cap of another just like this. I also have what I believe are death caps, though I didn't take any pics of those.
Then, as I was going inside to get the camera, I found this guy...
Anyone want to try to ID this one? Looks like it's growing in dead leaves/dirt in the crack. Diameter is about a dime, inch tall, red-orange color. Can't do a spore print yet, as I don't wanna kill it until it's a bit bigger or older anyway, and can't really tell what the gills look like. It is a firm mushroom though, stiff feeling.
The AM isn't important, I just thought it was an interesting find. It may not even be an AM, but it looks alot like one. There are no remnants on the caps though.

Pretty pics. The first one is a Russula. Difficult to identify to species. All russulas have very brittle, crumbly stems. Some smell like mushrooms, some smell like lobster or scallops, and some smell like rotten scallops. If you put the tiniest bit on your tongue, you may taste a very bitter taste, or a very peppery taste. Don't swallow and spit it out. The peppery one is often Russula emetica which, as the species name suggests, will make you throw up. Many Russulas are poisonous, though not deadly so. Some are edible, and none will make you have a psychedelic experience. You can differentiate them from amanitas like Amanita muscaria in several ways. First, the Russula cap is usually a solid color; red, burgundy, yellowish, plain, white, or green. They won't have white fleks of veil covering the caps as in the warty caps of A. muscaria. Secondly, Russulas have gills that are attached to the stem, whereas Amanita gills are free from the stem. Both have white spore prints.
Not sure about the other one. I think you have a Hygrocybe or maybe Hygrophorous but I have no idea about the species. Did it bruise black when you touched or picked it. If so, could be Hygrocybe conica, the witch's cap. In either case, it's not edible or active.
Edit: now looking at the second one, I almost can tell if I'm seeing pores or gill underhanging the cap. If pores, that's quite a nice looking bolete (but I don't think so). Take a picture of the underside of all mushrooms, and read the rules to see what info we like to have to make an identification.

xmush has it.
That first one is a Russula. Unfortunately, they cannot be identified accurately to species without a microscope.
Happy mushrooming!

cool... I used to see an AM fruiting in my backyard where I grew up. It was near an old pine that blew over in a hurricane, and the shroom would come up every once in a blue moon, just one single cap. It was def. an Amanita Muscaria. I had a feeling this red and white shroom might be something different, so I'm glad I asked. Not that I would eat anything without a proper ID, but I don't like to be ignorant of things like that either.
The little red-orange guy looks like one I saw a pic of online, but can't find again. Hopefully someone can ID it.
I'm interested in active species, but not limited to learning about only those, so finding stuff I haven't seen yet is exciting to me.
also, I THINK they're gills underneath it... I didn't pick it yet, it's still growing in the crack. I just took these pics today, so I'm not wanting to pick it just yet. I want to see if it gets bigger first.

Like I said about the red one, if there are gills I'd search pictures of Hygrocybe and Hygrophorous. Try mushroomexpert.com Also read the rules and 'how to post an ID request' sticky thread at the top of the forum. Good luck

You have one of the many blue bruising boletes. They don't blue for the same reasons that 'fun' mushroms do. But they are fun to make art with (see my avatar). Many of the poisonous boletes bruise blue, and for that reason we don't recommend eating any blue bruisers unless you are a master bolete identifier.
mushroomexpert.com has a nice section on boletes, and you can see the many blue bruisers that there are.

hrm... cool. I looked up bruising mushrooms and was reading about the boletes, so I figured that's what it was.
ok, so I guess if I don't get a print, it's no loss.
On a completely different note, my boss said I can come harvest from his horse stalls, so I'm excited. And yes, he knows what they are and what they do.
woohoo!

the little red capped one with yellow stem must be very widespread. I found that exact same type of mushroom in illinois.

cubes will grow on shit. cow shit, horse shit, goat shit. A friend of mine was going to an Arabian horse farm and harvesting them, so I know they'll grow on it. Yields may be less, but maybe not, as horseshit tends to be thrown in a pile outside of the barn. If I find nice fruits there, I'm gonna obviously take pics, and harvest the mycellium colonized manure to put in my very own compost pile... Which I will keep innoculating each time I add to it.
It's not like you can't go to an owner of a horse stall and get the stuff without much trouble. They just throw it out to fertilize the ground anyway. Just tell them you need it for your garden...

Good job on the ID sport-o, you get that from reading all of the other posts telling him it's a blue bruising bolete? And they're not active - do a little reading please.
