Trying To Fit 36 Hours into 24...

I'm not willing to call it impossible yet, but I'm getting close...
Think you're busy too?
Are you sleeping underneath your desk because it's a total waste of time to drive all the way home?
Are you on a first-name basis with all three shifts of janitors at your place of work/research?
Do the security guards at your building as you how to work security mechanisms?
Does your dog growl at you when you come home because it thinks you're a burglar?
If so, you may be in my position...

Only 40 more years until you can retire on a shitty pension supplemented by non-existent social security!
Hope you saved some money.

Heh. If only they paid me. Those are my school hours...
I'm shelling out something like 25K a year to do this...

I work 12 hours each day doing metal fabrication, I move heavy stuff like Ibeams and plate steel, I get home and wrestle the kids and a farm, I sleep about 2-3 hours per night before I have to get up at 3:00am and start the cycle all over again
I've only had a weekend as a vacation and I get no days off from some kind of work

Whoa. Man. You're in school? Stop taking it so seriously bro. You're going to burn yourself out before you graduate. Seriously... Don't take it so seriously? When you graduate, the only thing that is going to matter is that you have your diploma. Then, you need to get experience in the real world. College only prepares you for the real world. Don't let them make you feel like if you don't have a 4.0, you're not going to make it out there.

Im sure he is in graduate school. And if I remember correctly it is for some sort of geo-physics? If that is the case, his experience is the norm.
Im only in undergrad still, but I feel your pain. The end of the semester is near. I went in at 8:30am, just got home at 9:30pm. Im gonna have a guiness, do some work for an hour or two, then crash and start again at 8:00am tomorrow.
Keep it up dude!

actually, i just realized something...
i probably stay up all night once a week. I've got a course-load in which each homework takes HOURS, and I've get lots of em every week. Projects are due soon, too. I've been kickin ass this semester, though. So, i guess this sleep schedule isnt hurting me too much. I'm also training in cycling, and my performance hasnt fallen much.
just a couple more weeks...then im cashin in my books =).

I haven't done more than 10 hours of homework a week in the last 13 years...

Heh.
I'm still here.
For reference, I got into the building at 8 this morning, its 12:20 now, and I've had exactly one break, lunch, at about 3.
And yes, I'm a geophysics master's student at UW, and I'm getting my fucking ass kicked...

Don't get on yourself too bad about slacking off a bit. Handle your business, but don't take it as seriously as these guys. I'm really sorry to be blunt, and maybe my belief in how flawed our education system is makes me synical, but the number one course that should be offered in college is "How to Manage Stress" Because if you're already that stressed out by the time you leave college, you're going to have that much harder of a time when the real world hits. There is such a thing as working yourself to point of burnout, where even though you may have once shown interest in your work, that interest has faded due to poor stress management. Plus, student loans to pay off? These schools costing 25,000 dollar tuition? It's a flawed system, and people are making a lot of money off of us. Do what you have to do to graduate, after that, it's up to you!

You sound like my dad. I haven't gotten to quite that level myself, but I can see myself heading down that path. There's just far too much to accomplish in a single day.
