A day in the life of a recording musician

For those of you curious about the process of recording and actual album, I've compiled a few pics from today's session for you
Shall I start?
I arrive at the studio and start planning the session.
I set up the mics an mixer controls.
My assistant engineer and keyboardist arrives. Yes, he always wears the fancy hat.
We set levels and find a good acoustic spot, joking about my gayness thru the funny talk-back device.
I make music.
He makes records.
We mix songs. (prize for whomever finds Crankey in that pic)
We leave the studio and some good friends take our place.
My test listener is happy with our results.
We are tired an enjoy a few beers and sandwiches together. Tomorrow will be another day in Madrid.
I hope you enjoyed it, if you guys have ever had a question about the recording process of an album I'll be more than happy to answer them

I would like to get into this and feel I have a very good ear and ideas when it comes to engineering and producing something...so, my question is, what's the easiest way to get into it?(courses or what have you)
Also, if I was to start a home studio of sorts, what equipment for the amateur would you recommend(software and the likes)?
And any other tips and tricks?
btw, are you making a cd and is that studio a friends or professional?
Also, I learn well with "hands-on" and I just have to say, I would give ANYTHING to know someone who messes around in a studio like that, such as yourself. I only wish I knew someone I could spend a day with like the one you posted pictures of. I could learn so much

Well, I first started and IMHO it's the easiest way just donwloading some audio software and trying every option on them, then reading a little about that function on the net and then trying again
I spent several years doing that with tons of software and trying guitar pedals, reading books etc, but I've learnt as much in 3 months in my new school as I did in years alone. Now I atttend to the SAE Institue which is recognized worldwide, and I can say it's the second best investment of my life after my guitar
For an amateur I'd recommend getting a potent PC or MAC (I like PC better) and installing cubase sx3 (PC, already cracked on the net) or Digital Performer (Mac) and a firewire or usb interface, something like the Presonus Inspire, which has powered mic inputs and line/instrument inputs too.
Depending on what you want to record the choice of microphones and instruments varies, but you can find relatively good mics for as low as 120€. I personally use a behringer condenser microphone at home, but if you can afford it get a better one. There's a lot more to know about this tho, so feel free to ask!
As far as tips and tricks, read read & then read some more, listen to as much music as you can and try to hear what makes it so special and replicate it in your studio so you can know how to get the sounds that play in your head. The internet is full of amazing sites devoted to this very subject, go look for them and don't despair if everything looks too hard at first, it just takes time.
Yes, I'm making an album right now, that recording session was devoted to recording some acoustic guitar parts for it The studio is part of my school's set of amazing studios, this is the one for the noobs For guys in the last course they have a SSL mixer worth half a millon €!!
I whish I could invite you to spend a few days with me mixing and learning about recording as it's a very interesting experience, but I'm in Madrid Ask around and I'm sure you will find someone amongst your group of friends that has a mixer, ask them to show you! Trust me, people like us love to show what this or that button does

Can we hear any songs instead of just looking at pictures of men with expensive recording equipment?

Our sessions look nothing like that. There would be a cloud of smoke and bottles of booze all around.
