What A Great Idea
Well, I think it's a good idea, kids deserve to know about weed just as much as they need to know about sex and alcohol... [url=Bill O'Reilly Doesn't Agree..[/url]

They brought up Bill O'Reilly in the other thread about this and it turned into a thread about Bill O'Reilly--so, let's talk about the book this time.
It's pretty awesome--I think I'm gonna buy it for my baby neice

Haha yeah, I thought that was hilarious. I actually want to read the rest, they cut it off right at the good part. I hate effective marketing.

The only thing I don't like is the title--I mean I like it, but I think up-tight people will think it's a joke, because: pot's not just a plant, it's a plant that gets you high.
I realize the author's just trying to say: it's no more harmful than any other plant--that it's not something so horrible and taboo--but closed-minded people won't see that simple logic (so that might affect it's status in the mainstream).

I don't think that's what is going to effect its status in the mainstream. I think the fact that it's a book about pot for kids will effect its status in the mainstream.

its not just a "book about pot for kids." it a book teaching kids about pot, and encouraging them to wait until adulthood. on the books website it mentions fear is basically what is being taught to kids...people r trying to make kids afraid of pot using biased info, and not trying to show them truth. fear will only go so far in keeping a child from smoking. after hearing the same old shit for a while a kid will stop listening. i think this book is great, just on principle alone. its geared toward education of marijuana and i think it would be a great tool for any parent whos not really sure on how to explain weed to their kids

You can dismount your steed now. You missed my point. I am well aware of what the book is about. I'm simply stating why it's not going to be too well received by people.
For the record, I wouldn't buy the book. I'm perfectly capable of teaching my children (that I don't have) about things such as this. And they don't need to be learning about that at the age that the book seems to be aimed at. They can wait til they're a little older.

A lot of people I know started to smoke at around 12, going as low as 10. I remember being told about pot when I was in 3rd grade or so by some kids so waiting until they're older might be too late. It depends by what you mean by older I guess.
Edited: changed most to a lot of upon further reflection.

sorry if i offended u, and i didnt miss ur point. im just disagreeing with u and saying that it will do well because its all about education, until the uproar of parents using this book as an excuse to use for their kids smoking because its an easy scapegoat.

You didn't offend me, per say. And I still think you miss my point. You honestly think this book is going to be well received by the general public? Just because you and I might hang out with a bunch of liberal hippies does not mean that's what this country (world) is made up of. There's a reason Bill O'Reilly still has a TV show. It might do better off than it would have if it was released, say, even five years ago. But we're still a little ways away before this is "well received."
And when I say a little older, I mean like once they start drug education at school, I'll start drug education. I'd rather my children be focusing on learning to read and do math. That seems like the type of book I would have read in my first 2 or 3 years in elementary school. Also keep in mind that educating a child well can lead to early drug use as well. I think having a little bit of fear instilled is important.
Here comes the lynching mob.

That's a great idea for a book and has perfect timing. What should be scaring O'Reilly and any parent that is against this book is that they can do nothing about it. If they do, they just give it more and more attention. So long as each claim is accurate and sourced it should turn every bit of the negetive attention to positive.
Plus the guy quotes O'Reilly like he's giving it his approval, LOL.

now im not saying that fear isnt a good deterrant, but as the main tool i think it just doesnt cut it. i personally dont think schools should be doing anything about drug prevention...thats the parents job and not some whack job the school hires to try and scare small children.
as long as people have an open mind and judge the book by what it really is and not "a book about pot for kids" i think it will do relatively well. now i dont think it will become a best seller or anything of that nature, but highly doubt that it wont make it to "mainstream"
i live in the bible belt so i doubt it will be received very well by the bible thumpers around here (mostly southern baptist) but i think the fact that it encourages waiting until adulthood before trying drugs will be a dominate selling point.
