ignorance or good parenting?

i was talking to one of my little high school buddies that smokes, and his parents somehow found his stash in his car.. they tell him they want to kick him out of the house and want to get him help..i know him well enough to say that, in all respect, that he doesnt have a problem, he doesnt rely on smoke, he uses it in a way that makes him more dignified of a person.. it that really a good parenting skill, that marijuana users have to be "junkies", and to get your kid help, or just plain ignorance, because i know this kid doesnt have a problem, and dont believe he should be treated that way...?

The fact that you are asking this implies that you can understand how confusing it'd be for a parent. Sure, you like drugs, and his parents might too, but there is that inherent fear that they failed at raising a child. How would they feel if he was a devastated junkie down the road? Of course, the chances of that are low, if I trust your intuition.
Really, I think either swing could benefit him. If his parents ship him off, he would undeniably learn a lot of something. If they allow him to stay, the communication alone would allow for bonding.
Good luck with that, bucko.

They're idiots. Marijuana is harmless. Tens of millions of people in America have or do smoke it regularly and it never hurt a single one of them. If that kind of positive evidence doesn't outweigh those stupid fucking DEA sponsored TV ads for you then you are a retarded dipshit that shouldn't be raising a kid. Actually, people that stupid should be sterilized.

the parents have a legitimate concern. Legally, the guy is still a child in their custody, there are repercussions the parents could get if their kid gets caught with weed in their car or house.
I don't believe shipping the guy off to rehab is the answer, but he should definitely wait until he's 18 and moved into his own apt until he starts smoking.
This issue isn't about whether or not pot is harmful to someone, the real issue is respect for the parents.
