RH with casing
    #6753142 - 04/06/07 04:55 AM (16 years, 11 months ago)

So if I am right, with a casing you need a RH of 80%-90%, and with PF cakes or hpoo without casing you need a RH of 95%-99%. Are there any problem if I have a RH of 95%-99% with a casing or will it do just fine? Couse i have a FC with perlit and holes all around with RH of 95%-99%. Or could I lower RH(I dont know how) for casing, let it be like it is, or just dont case?
And something else, can I add crusher egg shell to a casing for Ph balance? After mycelium poke through the casing I just patch with wetted casing material and move it in FC, and after each flush too, is that right?
Thanks, Gap

To regulate your RH, just leave your FC partially open.

in a terrarium, the casings alone generally create enough humidity for themselves, without the help of perlite. you just have to keep up on watering them.

my FC has no perlite just casings in there and it stays at 90%

Yeah, but the perlite humidification will help regulate the rate of water loss through your casing layer. I just leave the lid crooked.

Pinning is best at 98% to 100% humidity, so I'd suggest perlite and lots of air exchange. Whether a casing layer is used or not is irrelevant to keeping the humidity at the right level for primordia formation, which is 98% to 100%.
