I've recently fallen in love with Pink Floyd while I'm tripping, are there any other layed back, psychadelic rock type bands? Grateful Dead perhaps?

i think grateful dead is different, but jam bands like them, phish or allman brothers are real good. they dont quite have to same psychadelic aspect though. i highly suggest allman brothers though.

No one is better than Floyd to trip to (personal opinion).
A close second is African Drums of any kind, all the percussion is crazy when youre trippin.

far east family band has an album that is pretty floydesque, instrumentally anyway. floyd is in a class of it's own, as many many many other great bands. I suggest you search the net, read reviews, see what amazon suggests if you like floyd, etc. start exploring the possibilities, you'll probably end up finding similar music as well as music that is very different that you may enjoy just as much if not more. there's a lot out there.

look for their album "It's the Business of the Future to Be Dangerous"
I think the secret to the Floyd's power is the number of people that have listened whilst tripping.
Same with Zep and the Dead.
make sure to fuel some next gen Zeitgeists like t00l or, or...

The Flaming Lips are good. Also, the french group Air remind me of Pink Floyd sometimes.. check out the song Le Voyage De Penelope.
Personally I like listening to Blonde Redhead a lot while tripping. Sufjan Stevens is good too... The Velvet Underground are one of my favorites... and there's always The Magnetic Fields.
oh and Of Montreal are pretty crazy.

Air sometimes gets too annoyingly psychedelically trippy-hippy for me . They do have good material though. Sufjan Stevens but everything else you mentioned imo

I wouldn't say Sufjan is really that great of tripping music.. I just threw it in there because I've been listening to a lot of him recently.
But I do think he's got a fantastic ear for pop music and is going to come out with even more amazing material in the future.

Have you tried listening to Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix while tripping? IMHO it's the best album ever for tripping, specailly the central suite.
If you can't be bothered to check the album at least download "1983 a merman I should turn to be", the most psychedelic song EVA

Great album indeed, Burning of the Midnight Lamp is thee song for nitrous oxide tripping. Normally when I'd get a box I'd go through all kinds of music. Last box I had was dedicated fully to that singular song. Truly incredible song, with or without the drukgs.

There is a lot of good tripping music, but Pink Floyd is one of a kind. If you ask me they are the definition of psychedelic music!

I have to say I agree about it being one of a kind. Everyone always trys to compare other bands to pink Floyd. They were really a unique group that had a great combination of simplistic musicians. They're music is so open. I mean, most of their stuff was not written about psychedelics and the band was not really into drug use.. save the early years. But whats so beautiful is that the music is so open that almost anyone can pull some sort of meaning from it. Weather is psychedelic, dealing with the experience of life, or anything else.
You might enjoy sigur ros. Very chill post rock.
