Weilii Season

Recently moved to North GA. I found out about Weilii late last year. I used to hunt in Alabama all the time. I loved it. I am anxiously waiting the day I see a weilii sprout in my yard. Any Ideas, to when and where they will begin to grow? Understood...if no one wants to share there knowledge..

Look at the 'related threads' at the bottom of this page. And click on the actual 'search posts' function near the top of the page. It gives different results than the 'search our site box.' I think they set it up that way to keep noobs in check! You will find lots of good weilii info, and good luck to you.

I am very ignorant when it comes to hunting mushrooms. So...pleas be patient with me. Last year on one of my hunting excursions I found a huge white mushroom. It was about 7 inches tall and about 5 inches wide. It had white to pale pink gills (cant really remember). But the weirdest thing...it had this furry stuff coming off of it. I found it around Dalton ga. Im sure it is weilli or morels (im not that ignorant). Any ideas on what it might have been from my very vauge description.

Sounds like some kind of Agaricus or Lepotia.

I'm sorry, I know that you are new to this. But what would make you think it is a weilii? When have you seen a description of 5 inch wide weilii's that are white with pink gills?? And you're sure it is either a weilii or a morel? Those two couldn't look any more different. That's like saying, "I saw an animal today, it was furry and walked on four legs. Im sure it was a rattlesnake or a bald eagle (im not that ignorant). "
I smell a troll here... and when I think about trolls in weilii threads...

i know it wasnt weilii. I was just wondering what it might have been because it was the biggest mushroom i've ever seen. I did find something today that I think might be weilii. I dont know though. I took photos. It has kind of a furry cap though. I think it might even be one of those weilii look alikes (Valencia, i think.) I have an EAGLE eye when it comes to spotting mushrooms. I saw these at 40 mph in the grass along side of the rode. I locked my brakes down and gathered a few. Here are the pics. Help me out here.

The forum does accept jpg's.
At the top of the page where it says your name, click "pics". Then look for the "upload" link.
You may need to resize your photos if they are too large.

Nice job on the pictures. Looks like Lacrymaria velutina, formerly in the genus Psathyrella. This mushrooms seems to be an indicator that weiliis will be found. Although, this mushroom is so incredibly common, that I would be surprised if you found weilii without finding one of these in the general vicinity. So I don't know how much faith you should place in its presence. Weilii do resemble this mushroom IMO.
