Yellow Staining on casing layer Pics Added
    #670937 - 06/10/02 02:29 AM (21 years, 9 months ago)

My casing layer has yellow/piss colored stains on the surface in various places...

Is this contams or just mycelial waste?

Thank you

indicaz

Like the kind you get in jars too? If it's that it's just harmless waste.

yeah its basically yellow/tanish spots in variou splaces on my casing, I have pins allready but I was wondering if its maybe because the humidity is too high or maybe my casings are too wet...

Also does mycelium kinda get thin and turn grey in some spots too.. I assume the grey is from the thinning and the casing layer kinda showing through it..

Is this due to too much water??

I've seen the graying of mycelium in parts of my casing. I haven't had any pins from those areas though.

As for the yellowing, I don't know what causes that, but I've seen that too. The times when my humidity has been to high I have gotten yellow stems, but I can't really say I've seen a correlation between humidity and the yellow secretion.

Then again I've only done a couple of casings

WOW

this is weird, when i took the above photo my casings had just been humidified/misted...

Ok now its like a half hour later and I guess moisture had time to absorb...

The yellowing has faded a bit, and the grey areas are kinda getting white again... I also noticed some of the pins actually look like they got bigger in just a half hour........................... im so confused someone please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this discussion cannot be answered here MOD please move to advanced

thanks
indicaz

I had it, nothing happens. Although not as much as you. Did you see my post in pic forum?
If your casing is wet, this is bad, don't let it get drenched on the suface, it will attract contam.
Keep your eye on it, it shouldn't get worse. Prolly piss.
You may want to light mist with peroxide /water, just to be safe.
Add peroxide to you humidifier water too, these things can be a breeding ground for contams.
No advice really, time will tell.
What substrate/casing material is it?

Good luck

brf cased with coir,

there were no puddles in my casing, i just assumed it was a lil too wet because the mycelium was kinda getting translucent and grey... now that Ive given a lil time to dry the grey seems to be dissapearing a lil, but the casing still looks rough...

hi!
I sometimes have that yellow stuff, too. It happens when water stays a while on the mycelium. Also happens when casing soil is colonized too much, because then the soil can't absorb water / condensating humidity.
That's what I believe.

so basically I should cut back on how much Im humidifying?

When I dont humidify the humidity drops to the 80's

but it seems when I run my humidifier the humidity stays high but my casings get too wet

I have a bubbler running all times but that dosent seem to be keeping the humidity up high like it was initially.... it used to but not anymore for some odd reason.

since your pinning humidity can be at 80 and be perfect. casing need alot less humidity than cakes. its good to be in the 90's before it pins but once it starts drop it to 80 you might even get a bigger flush.thats what ive noticed when i use less humidity.hope that helps

Thanks I will give it a shot, I dont think its contams cause the casing right next to this one isnt yellowing at all... and isnt waterlogged..... Maybe its specific to the strain ... or maybe the coir.... who knows. Im gonna fruit this out and hope for the best. I see lots of pins and lots of knotting, just the yellow shit makes me scared....

thanks everyone for your help and if anyone has anyone would like to add go ahead, by no means are my questions neccesarily answered. I take it that yellow casings dosent happen that often.

thanks
indicaz

Okay so I've done some reading and I just asked a Buddy and he told me that when he overwatered his whene spraying them the yellow spots showed up when to much water.. they said they're not harmful it's basically just mushroom piss and too much water
