Another The Mars Volta Thread

By now, most people have heard of The Mars Volta, so I won't be asking that. I was just pondering about how important The Mars Volta is to the music scene as a whole. There hasn't been a good, original band out in a very long time. They are incredible musicians, incredibly original. Energetic shows and very emotional music. I believe that they will be the next Pink Floyd. Thoughts?

I like the Mars Volta. They are a bit pretentious. Many geniuses are, I suppose. De-loused, Frances the Mute and Scab Dates are all incredible. Amputechture has some moments, but there is too much FM radio influence.

Yeah, their newest album isn't so good. I think it's cool when he sings in Spanish but I like Francis the Mute the best.

I think their newest album is their best work, though I love all their stuff...
In my top 5 bands, for sure.

De-Loused>Amputechture>Francis The Mute imo. But that's beside the point, I think they're going to make great music for years to come.

I saw them live last weekend in Melbourne and they are still fucking amazing. That was the first time I saw them do Cicatriz ESP live aswell, and holy shit it was worth it. Viscera Eyes and Day of the Baphomets were fucking unreal aswell. They also did a new song which sounded awesome. They give you way more than your moneys worth.
Cedric crowd surfed from the back to the front at the start and was throwing shit off the stage into the crowd the whole night.
They were filming for a DVD too, and I might be on it yay

The singer bugs the shit out of me. There's just something about his voice that makes me want to cram a screwdriver into my earhole.
But as far as the guitar playing and all the other stuff goes, they're a pretty good band.
May not be the next Pink Floyd, but yeah they're all right.
