1st grow, getting ready to fruit

So, I have 9 1/2 pint PF jars (1 got too wet during PCing and isn't colonizing), several of them are almost 100% colonized, so I'll be ready to fruit them in about a week.
I figure I'll first dunk them for 12 hours or so in my fridge, then I was going to case them in 60% peat moss, 30% vermiculite, and 10% lime (as suggested in http://www.fungifun.org/English/Casing) in small foil pans, and put those pans in the FC on top of wet perlite. Would it make that much of a difference if I were to break up the cakes vs. leaving them intact in the casing?
Also, what kind of yeild can I expect? The strain is Cambodian, if that makes any difference.

i would crumble them. i would think it will give you a more even pinset. I would recommend searching "spawning to coir" and thinking about spawning those jars to a bit of coir in the pans before you case it.

I looked into spawning to coir, and I couldn't find anything I totally understood (please excuse my newb-ness).
What exactly is spawning? I have the myc growing the the jars, and that colonized substrate will later be put in a casing in a foil pan, but where does spawning fit in there?

The easiest way for me to understand it, I too am new to growing, is that spawning can be looked at kind of like expanding your substrate. You are using your colonized jars of whatever (your substrate) and spawning them to another growth medium (coir/hpoo etc) then the mycelium will colonize your new growth medium resulting in a bigger substrate (more surface area) and more fruits! You can then case your substrate (the casing is the stuff you put on TOP of your substrate, not the whole mass of substrate + casing) EG: 50/50
Sorry If I misused any terms. I think I have them on lock down and Im just trying to help a fellow beginner out

Thanks for the link. With my jars totally colonized by the time I take them out, is contamination not really an issue anymore? I just didn't notice anything in that link about contam precautions. Of course, I'd still be as sterile as possible.
Any idea on how much coir I should use for each 1/2 pint cake? And would it matter at this point whether I still dunked my cakes? I figured I would, as I don't see how it could hurt.
Also, where can I find coir?

Fully colonized spawn is pretty resistant to contamination so providing you don't handle them with dirty hands you should be OK,the only place where contamination is a big issue is inoculating jars which should be done in a still near glovebox
Yea you can go ahead and dunk them before crumbling them but if you don't need to because once spawned your mycelium will be getting its moisture from the substrate, coir can be found in the reptile section of the pet store. It is sold under the names bed a beast and Eco-earth

you definitely need to sterilize your casing and everything, contamination is always a problem. its when you put the casing on that you need the FAE more than complete sterility.
edit: or was that when it starts pinning..

I cant seem to find it but there was a extensive discussion on the board just the other day about if a casing layer should be sterilized or pasteurized.I have always pasteurized but some people do prefer to sterilize

oh, yeah i was reading that. RR made a post in another thread very recently about pasturization killing the mould [which die at lower temps] but leaving the beneficial bacteria, whereas pure and complete sterilization leaves it vulnerable to competitive contaminants.
stop nitpicking my comments blut :P he pasteurize it, but just make sure he keeps contams in mind
