“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

Hah!  That put a smile on my face.  Chenqui.

This is really an interesting area of discourse for me right now.  Hunter S. Thompson, J.R.R. Tolkien, Terence McKenna, Alan Watts: my favorite authors are all men in whom I sense this power to eloquently convey the transpersonal motifs of their lives' unfoldment.  I would love to be able to do that!

Inspiration is the key to the storybook world.  Surfing with poise and faith, compassion arises of itself.

Many people these days see concision in language as advantageous. Too many sounds = too much of the whole conveyed. Others are over-anxious to metaphor themselves.

Nibbling off pieces and balancing poetry and prose; walking the middle path and stopping to smell the roses that you won't see till you're around the bend. Yes, that is humanity. I liiiiiiike

Great posts Bug.

I'm majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Linguistics. I too was impressed by certain people and how they conveyed their subjective world to an audience. People like Terence McKenna, Robert Anton Wilson and James Joyce are my top 3 people who inspired me to learn all that I can about language and how it creates the reality in which I live.

Bug, have you heard of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis? If not, look it up. Really cool stuff.
