Yet another - Do I have cobweb mold thread
    #6637222 - 03/05/07 10:58 AM (17 years, 18 days ago)

I have a H202 solution made up, but my casing has a couple of pins forming on it already. I'm pretty sure we have a cobweb mold problem as pretty much the whole casing was covered within a day or so after we dunked it.

Can I directly spray the casing? I'm under the impression it will cause the small budding pins to abort and fuck everything up.

Should I maybe wait until the mushrooms grow up a bit and then spray?

What are your thoughts?

(Here are some pictures of the casing in question.)

The spots with no growth are areas that we patched with casing after the inital flush. There were some holes exposing the substrate after our first flush.

It really doesn't look like cobweb mold to me. The rhizomorphs definitely aren't Dactylium(cobweb).

Cobweb mold will be aerial and fuzzy, almost looking like the dust you find under your bed. It will also literally melt before your eyes if you spray it with 3% peroxide, so you can test spray a small portion if you want to find out for sure. Remember though, 3% is the concentration it comes from the store if you live in the US, so you won't want to dilute it any. Don't spray any of the ropey mycelium because that's definitely not cobweb.

On a side note: We have four cased beds of mushrooms in one fruiting chamber. We just noticed a small dime sized spec of green mold growing. We harvested the mushrooms right away and threw away the casing, are the mushrooms okay to eat? Or should we throw them away too?
There is no mold on the mushrooms themselves, and it wasn't touching any of the mushrooms.

The mushrooms are fine. Eat them.

I think its just vigorously growing mycelium, not cobweb.
The shrooms are probably fine to eat if there isn't any mold on them.
