I don't even live anywhere remotely close to a place to pick shrooms from cow dung (out in the field, not the sterlized kind indoors). My question is how severe are the risks of getting e. coli or worms, etc. from the still steaming shit? Another question- I have read in a book some years ago that some shrooms are difficult to distinguish between poisoness fungi. Is there any truth to this? Any horror stories?

but you could always run your hands through the steaming shit to find worms.

There are some look alikes that are hard to distinguish.
I still haven't figgured out why so many people have this problem with Psilocybe cyanescens...
the Galerina species doesn't look like them if you know what your looking for.
If you look at the stems...the Cyans are white.
If you look at the stems...the Galerina are the same color as the caps(not white).
just an example.
and yes there is alot of horror stories...
seems like every year I read of someone eating the poisonous look alikes in the newspaper.
and I see articles on the internet of more.

If your h/poo has been weathered properly, turned & dried.
There are no worms in it.
There are very few micro-organisms alive it it, also.
Since, once dry, it is no longer hospitable to them.
There are however, insect eggs, spores & bacteria in it.
But, once properly pasteurized, they are not a problem.
Weathered h/poo, turned & weather dried.
Dry, shredded & bagged. Stored dry.
Ready to hydrate in plastic bags & be pasteurized.
Only contact is with gloved hands.

Yeah you got to pastuerize. But I was speaking of the "kids" who just run out in the fields grab the first shroom they see growing and dose. Everytime I talk to people about shrooms, they seem to bring up that those (fresh field) are the best. The whole time I am thinking, "they have never even left the trailerpark. How did they get to Florida?" This is when I argue the benefits of the indoor cultivation methods. But those guys really only care about dosing. Tards.
