birthing and timing and primordia and such
    #6617037 - 02/27/07 03:01 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

OK I've been all over the forum and archives and now I'm more confused than ever. I have 15-20 partially colonized jars and 2 partially colonized mycobags. 4 different strains in all. 2 of my 1/2 pint jars are fully colonized and I'm getting conflicting info on where to go now. Momentarily I have them in a semi-fruiting chamber, still in the jars at an even 70 degrees, getting 9 hrs. of light a day. I'm confused as to wether I should keep on keeping on and wait for pinning, or primordia within the jars, or to (possibly cold shock?) then, birth-dunk-roll. I'm not wanting to case these first 2 cakes. Thanks in advance for any help

If you are not going to case them and just want to grow them out as cakes than they can be birthed any time after full colonization and you would probably get more out of them if you birthed them now rather than let them pin in vitro from the light you have been giving them,if you want to wait till your other jars catch up than put them in the fridge to stall them

No, I'd rather these produce now as opposed to letting the others catch up, in fact, the others catching up would not do at all. It's good to hear that an immediate birthing would work, that's what my gut was telling me, but as I said, conflicting info. I've just recently started reading on "in vitro" and am interested, but for my first "trial" cakes I'd like to have them in an easily examinable position, so to speak. I have plenty of both verm. and perlite, aquarium pumps, a mist maker, a cool-mist humidifier, and everything else that seemed of importance when I was in my "preparation stage", now it seems it's time to birth my first cakes! And without going through the casing process I guess I'll get quick results. Thank you for your fast response!
