Im planning on buying a microscope soon and didnt want to spend much more than $250. I found some pretty good deals on ebay but I was just wondering if anyone here had any recomendations for a good microscope or another site besides ebay that would have any good deals.

i never needed a microscope. unless you plan on gettin hard-core, don't buy one. advanced mycology is where you should be asking.
my recommendation is the turbo-elite crosmo-pulation 5000. it rules.

Are you wanting to study gill and mushroom tissue, or are you wanting to look at spores, mycelium and clamp connections? For the former, get a stereo microscope, and the latter you'll want a light microscope. Both open up a whole new world of mycology that few get to see and will make a geek out of you in a hurry.
Scroll through my gallery and you'll find a couple of dozen microscope pictures taken with a variety of scopes and cameras. If you see what you want to look at, let me know and I'll show ya which microscope/camera combination was used. I have six microscopes and use every single one of them, depending on purpose. Two are cheap versions of my bigger ones and they're in your price range. I use them first because they're light and easy to move around. If I need a wider field of view or clearer view, or want to take a high quality picture, I move to the big boys. RR

Im wanting to study cells so I guess Ill need to get a light microscope. The kind of microscope used to take the pics of the trikaryotic mycelium and clamp connections is kind of what Im going for even though it might be out out of my price range.

The one that took the trikaryotic picture is the trinocular M2 Lab scope from www.microscopesusa.com It has a ccd tube, and the 3 megapixel video camera also shown on that site.
They also have student and intermediate microscopes, but you won't get the clarity you will from a better model. The objectives on the M2 are probably double the diameter of the objectives on the student microscopes. This lets in a lot more light, even though both have the same 'power'. RR

I don't see an adjustment for a mechanical stage on that one. It looks fixed, except for being able to raise up and down for focus. If not, it means you would have to push your slide around under the lense by hand. That would be nearly impossible to position properly at high magnification. The slightest touch would send your object out of view. You want to make sure anything you get has two knobs on the stage. One for moving it left and right, and one for moving it forward and back. A third knob moves it up and down for focus. Make sure it also has a fine and course focus knob or it's a real pita to adjust. Personally, I think you can get more scope for your money, even if you gotta drop a bit more cash. RR

Off ebay, Precision*World was the company that sold it to me. They have a shit load of microscopes and microscope accessories for sale, they have a little ebay business so they have plenty of auctions going on if you were interested in getting a scope yourself.
