Strange - Is this Contamination (Yellow Oysters)?

I have a bag I injected with yellow oyster culture. It appears to be growing normally from the front:
But from the side, I can see what appears to be something else growing:
At first I thought this was more oyster mycelium, since it is white. But I see it appears to be growing only on the plastic bag. It is not growing significantly on the substrate. Here is a closer shot from a different angle:
I assume this is contamination - what would it be? Cobweb? What could cause this?
Thanks, AOLSD

Hello AmericaOnLSD, i'm quite sure it's mycelium, but i'm not sure, it seems to grow strandy looking the 3rd shot.
You can wait that the 2 myceliums come in contact, if the 2 myceliums un ite themself it's mycelium, if they don't unite one of the two is mold, if the possible mold spot eats the mycelium is mold, if the mycelium eats the mold is okay but don't use this new colonized substrate as spawn.
And another thing, if you inoculed it can you remember if the position of the needle of the syringe was where the white spot is?If yes it's 70% mycelium, if no it's 30% mold.
Keep us updated, Fabio

Very strange if you didn't inoculate that spot. You need air in that bag. The top part should be inflated almost like a balloon. RR

I remember I stuck the needle almost straight back - I tried to get it close to the center of the substrate. I don't believe the liquid culture should have gotten to that edge of the bag, unless maybe there was a "crack" in the substrate that lead there. Mycelium is definitely not growing solid in the substrate on the side, because if I feel there it is soft whereas if I feel the white spot on the front is is harder.
We shall see. I kept a few drops of the LC and did an agar culture on a petri dish, then transferred a wedge of this to rye. The rye jar is now almost completely colonized (a week and several shakes later). So if this substrate is contaminated I will still have the strain.

Mhmh..as you describe the situation It's a contamination..also because mycelium grows spherically in the 3 dimensions! Have you checked if the bag is punctured over/near the spot?

There does not appear to be any puncture in the bag, at least not that I can tell. I would think if there was a puncture in bag then it would fill up pretty rapidly with air when I let it hang from the top. But it takes hours to get any noticeable amount of air in the top of the bag.
I got the bag and liquid culture from a Shroomery sponsor.

The liquid probably just ran to that spot, especially if it looks just like the other one. It's probably about time to massage the bag between your fingers to break up the mycelium and spread it around the bag. RR
