Firefox overtakes IE
    #6601382 - 02/23/07 09:46 AM (17 years, 1 month ago)

Well on the Shroomery at least. Last month IE had the lead at 46.4% to Firefox's 45.1%, but this month it's 46.7% to 44.7% in Firefox's favor. Of course I'm only talking about one month which isn't even over yet, but I thought it was interesting. As far as I know this hasn't happened before on this site.

That means Shroomerites are more progressive than most people.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Speaking of Firefox, 2.0.0.2 is out... get it while it's hot.

I switched the second I realized how nice tabbed browsing was

that and the find thing that stays docked to the bottom when you hit ctrl-f is so much better than the floating IE one

that doesn't reflect actual browser usage does it?

Browser Statistics

Within the last 5 years the percentage of surfers using IE has dropped from just over 80% to about 55%. It's been dropping at a rate of a little under 10% a year, but now I suspect IE usage will begin to drop at a higher rate. Why? I have no solid idea. The sooner it phases out of existence the better.

It's so hard to think of something to say with Hypnotoad staring at me.

But firefox overcoming IE in any way is good news to me.

Well, I get your jist but we dont want it completely gone do we? We want a healthy competition between browsers. The more we have competing, the better our free browsers will be.

Good point, but even with IE out of the picture there are a number of competitors. IE isn't even really in the competition, it's just like a really rich guy who buys himself a trophy or something... The sooner IE finally becomes standards compliant the better - but that probably won't ever happen. I'm surprised Netscape is still around. I think competition between browsers like Firefox, Mozilla, Opera, Safari, Konqueror and a couple others would be fierce and result in some good tools. IE just plain fuckin blows, it's like they didn't even try to make it not complete shit.

Firefox will just turn as tyrannic as IE did if you ask me. Opera is suffering the monopolistic ways of firefox already!!

But of course, nobody asked me
Long live Opera!

I suggest your read this article. Or this one. Or a number of others..

My biggest problem with IE is it's complete disregard of established web standards. I'll spend hours programming a layout to the standards just to find that despite the fact it works in every standards compliant browser it does not work correctly at all in IE, which is especially discerning considering most internet users still utilize it (if that's even possible). Then I spend usually two or three times the amount of time it took me to initially program the site, just to find and test workarounds and hacks that make the site work correctly in IE. Or it will be impossible to make it work in IE, in which case I have to reformulate entire already utilized programming methods or make functional/aesthetic sacrifices in favor of some ass-backwards system. Ask any programmer and they will tell you of their plight.

I love Firefox and have been converting everybody I know to it since I found it. It isn't that hard to convert someone when IE sucks such big nuts.

I find it's so much faster.  Except now the :strokebeard: guy strokes his beard too fast...  Like he's Freud on speed.
